DOOR-PULL.
noaaeaa.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 17, 1914;.
Application filed June 23, 1913. Serial No. 775,193.
To all whom it may concern.-
lle it known that I, GEORGE A. SIEBEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in tl e county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful improvements 111 Door-Pulls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hand grips for sliding doors, its object being to provide a construction of grip, in the use of which there is no danger of injury as in the case of the ordinary open grip construction.
To this end the invention consists in the features of construction, combination, arrai'igement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. 1
in the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation, broken away, of a wall and supported sliding door fitted with one form of my invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the form shown in Fig. 1 and a portion of a supporting sliding door; F 3 is a section on line of Fig. 2; Fig. 4; is a plan view of a second form of my invention; and Fig. 5 is a section on line yz of Fig. 4-.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a wall formed with a doorway 2.
B represents an ordinary construction of sliding door carrying supporting rollers 3 traveling upon the rail 4; above the doorway.
In carrying out my invention with the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3, I form a socket opening 5 in the face of the door adjacent to its inner edge. Fitted in the opening 5 is a casing 6 formed at its opposite ends with outwardly extending ears 7 through which screws 8 are adapted to be passed into the body of the door, said casing at its one s being also formed with inwardly extending flanges 9 under which the opposite ends of a spring plate 10 extends. The spring plate 10 is centrally supported upon a block 11. As shown, the block 11 is shaped to accommodate the inward movement of the ends of the spring plate. The end walls of the casing 6 are preferably curved to conform to the inward movement of the ends of the spring plate.
In the form shown in Figs. at and 5 a casing 1-3 similar in general construction to casing 6 is fitted within an opening 151- and secured in position by screws 15 extending through the ears 1G in the body of the door. The casing 13 is formed with inwardly extending edge flange 17. A spring plate 18 is arranged within the casing and supported at one side upon a block 19, the spring plate extending underneath the opposite flange 17. Thus in use the free edge of the plate 18 will be depressed in the same manner that the free edge of the plate 6 is in the other form. Two opposed casings 16 are em ployed to give the results of the casing 6. It will be evident that normally the spring plate will be held sprung outwardly againstthe flanges 9 or flange 17, constituting a flush construction. lVhen it is desired to open or close the door the hand is pressed under one of the flanges to force the corresponding end of the spring plate inwardly. lVhen in the act of opening the door the hand passes the operators body the spring will tend to force the hand out of the grip, keeping the user from carrying the hand against any adjacent wall. The ends of the spring plate when in normal flush position and also when being forced inwardly or springing back against the flanges 9, by reason of the manner in which it is fitted in the casing, prevent any dirt getting behind the spring plate.
I claim as my invention:
1. In combination with a door having a socket opening, an open faced casing fitted therein, and a spring plate centrally supported in said casing.
2. In combination with a door formed with a socket opening, an open faced casing fitted therein and formed with end flanges extending inwardly over said opening, and a spring plate centrally supported in said opening and extending under said flanges.
3. In combination with a door formed with a socket opening, an open faced casing fitted in said opening, inwardly extending end flanges carried by said casing, a block centrally positioned in said casing, and a spring plate centrally supported upon said block and extending under said flanges.
4. In combination with a door formed with a socket opening, an open faced casing fitted therein and formed with an inwardly extending flange, and a spring plate supported within the same and at its free edge fitting underneath said flange for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. SIEBEN. 'tnesses:
H. S. JOHNSON, H. Swanson.
