FOLDING BED.
Los'noisl Specification of Letters Patent.
latentetufeb. 17, 1.91 It.
Application filed November 29, 1912. Serial No. 734,173.
To all oir/1,0m 'it may Concern Be it known that I, Gnoaon F. Sisnownn, a citizen of the United States.l residing at llast Orange, in the county of Essexand State ot' New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Beds, the following being a full, clear, and exact disclosure ot' the one form of my invention which I at present deem preferable.
For a detailed.description ot the present form of my invention, reference may be had to the Jfollowing sliecitication and to the accompanying drawing torming a part thereof, in which*- Figure 1 shows my folding bed with its parts in an intermediate position, Vig. shows it with its parts in extended position and Fig. 3 in t'olded or closed position.
Referring to the drawings, A represents one end ot' a metallic bed frame with an upper curved cross-bar A1 and a lower straight cross-har A?. it being understood that both ends of the tramo are ot similar construction. lWithin this a horizoiitally traveling "frame l. carrying one half ot the spring mattress tala-io, with legs and casters at its trout edge. llinged to the4 rear edge of frame P, by the roller junction-plate J is a tolding frame, composed of the hinged sections C and C2, with a longitudinal rod c which carries the other half of the spring fabric. The roller K at the point of hingel connection between trame B, and the folding frame runs on the upper curved edge of cross-bar A1 and the plate J overhangs the said cross-bar. At .the joint between sections Cl, G2 is hinged a leg D having the lower end of an operating bar E hinged thereto. To the junction-plate .T is. also hinged a U-bar F, to which one edge of the folding mattress M is attached and which is connected to end-frame A by a link G. The upper end of bar E is hinged to the U- bar F. Assuming the bed to be extended'as shown in Fig. Q, the U-bar F will be lifted and turned on its. hinge to the position shown in Fig. 1. Such movement ot' the U bar l" will, through the link G and bar E, .draw in the traveling frame B and allow the folding ltrame to double up downwardly A. further movement ol the bar l" will bring the parts t the closed or folded relation shown in lhg.
The reverse operation will open the bed as shown in Fig. 2.
What I claim as new and desirev to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A bed structure comprising a stationary frame, a horizontally traveling frame carrying one portion of the metallic mattress fabric, a folding frame forming an intermediate permanent connection between the stationary trame and the traveling 'frame and carrying the remaining portion of the mattress fabric, and means for moving said traveling trame, said means also including means tor simultaneously acting on the toldin g trame to fold or untold the latter.
. A hed structure comprising a station ary trame, a horizontally traveling trame carrying one portion of the metallic mattress fabric, a folding frame toi-ming an intermediate permanent connection between the stationary frame and the traveling frame and carrying the remaining portion ot the mattress fabric, a folding leg connected with said folding section, and means tor moving said traveling frame. said means also ineluding means 't'or simultaneously acting on the Vfolding trame and the Jfolding leg to fold or unfold the same.
3. A bed structure comprising a stationary trame, a horizontally traveling frame supported at one edge on the floor and at the other edge on the stationary frame, a
folding frame hinged to said stationary.
frame and also to said traveling frame and forming an intermediate connection between the stationary trame and the traveling frame, and means for moving said traveling frame, said means including means for simultaneously acting on theI folding l'rame to told or untold the latter.
4. A bed structure comprisinga stationary i'rame, a horizontally traveling frame carrying one portion ot' .the metallic mattress fabric, a folding li'anie Yforming an intermediate permanent connection between the stationary trame and the traveling frame and carrying the remaining portion of the mattress fabric, said folding trame being formed othinged sections, and means for moving said traveling frame. said means also including means t'or simultaneously acting on the folding trame to fold or untold the latter. A
5. A bed structurel comprising a station- Q gemelo ary fram-elfje horizontally :movable 'freine suppoted ;ll1e1'el3y, e folding freine com posed ol two longed sections; one seeion oeing hinged *6o iiemovabledmme and the other sect-ion being hinged to lie4 etzaione'fy freine, an operating device hinged to lie movable frame, a leg hinged to elle 'folding frame, a hinge connection between the leg and ldie operating device, and ineens Whereoy said. operating device may be actuated.
6. A bed stuetine comprising e stationzu-y frame, a movgible freine suppored there by, :1 folding frame hinged eo *die movable frame and jdie stationary freine, e leg hinged to the folding 'fi-ame, on operating device hinged to the movable immo, e. hinge onneetion between the leg' and the seid opeieting device, end ineens whereby seid opere-t- 'I 'mg device may be aetimted7 '7. A bed structure comprising e stationery frame provided with a curved Supporting bei', a movable frame, e folding freine hinged 'to the movable frame and to the etaiionery frame, a roller at the juntion of die movable. and folding frame engaging' the supportinfr bei, a plate at said junction overlapping tide supporting bar, an operating device hinged to he pla-te, and a link connection between the operating device and he stationary freine.
In. Witness whereof l have hereunto set my hand, before two subscribing witnesses. this 27th dey of November, 1912.
