GARMENT-WEIGHT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1914.
Application filed September 13, 1911, Serial No. 6 19,0 78. Renewed December 16, 1912. Serial No. 737,128.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL FELD, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Far Rockaway, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in GarmentlVeights, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to garment weights employed by dressmakers for holding the,
bottom of a skirt or the bottom of a coat in position, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class, particularly designed for use in connect-ion with ladies coats.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a back view of the bottom part of the skirt portion of a ladys coat provided with my improvement; Fig. 2 a
view of my said improvement detached and with part of the construction broken away; Fig. 8 a view similar to Fig. 1, but on an enlarged scale and showing one part of the device, and; Fig. 4 a section on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
In the practice of my invention I provide a strip a of any suitable fabric and place thereon at regular intervals, centrally thereof, weights 7) which are composed of soft metal and these weights are stitched to said strip, the line of stitching running centrally and longitudinally of said strip as shown at c.
After the weights have been secured to the strip a another strip (Z similar to said strip a is placed thereon and stitched thereto at both edges thereof or adjacent to said edges as shown at e and this forms a weight strip which may be secured in the bottom of the skirt portion of the garment in the usual or any preferred manner, and as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, in which I have shown at f the bottom part of the skirt portion of a coat, the weight strip being indicated at g by dotted lines.
After the weight strip has been'formed in the manner described, I pass through one edge portion thereof a thread or cord 7a which is drawn so as to gather or contract said edge and give the weight strip a circular or arc-shaped form, as clearly indicated in Fig. 2 and this completes the said weight strip and the curved shape thereof facilitates the use of the device and enables it to be properly placed in position in the bottom of the garment.
Having fully described'my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A garment weight strip composed of two similar strips of fibrous material and to the inner side of one of which is secured a plurality of weights which are covered by the other strip, said strips being stitched together at their opposite edges and one edge portion of the weight strip thus formed being provided with a draw cord or thread whereby said weight strip is given a circular shape.
2. A garment weight strip composed of fibrous material and consisting of separate side portions connected at their top and bot tom edges, and a plurality of weights spaced in said strip and secured therein by a row of stitches running centrally and longitudi nally through said weights.
8. A garment weight, comprising a flexible strip composed of similar side members and a plurality of weights spaced in said strip and secured thereto by a row of stitches running substantially centrally through said weights, said side members being connected at their top and bottom edges.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 11th day of September, 1911.
SAMUEL FELD.
