- specimen-on of Letters Patent:
`Application led January 31, 1918 Serial No. 745,426.
' tachrnent= to the collar vvi'tha view to prelthe support; Flg.
vent the turned-down fro-nt portions offthe collar from wrinkling up, and'to hold the same in-properly stretched pos1t1ons, thus insuring at all times a neat appearance of i the collar.
In order to accomplish the deslred result, use is made of a fastening member adapted to be placed intermediate the 'neckb'and and the turned-downportions ofthe collar, the upper edge of the fastening member .abutting4 againstor being in close proxlmlty to the joint of the neckband w1th the turneddown portions, the said fastenlng` member being provided with buttons disposed at opposite sides of the median line of the stlifening member to engage the usual buttonholes in the turned-down front `portions ofthe collar.
A practical embodiment of theginvention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming aV art of vthis specification, in
which similar c aractersA of reference indicate corresponding partsv in all the views.
Figure l is a perspective view of a shirt having a turned-down collar provided with the support; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of 3 is a` face view of the same with one of the buttons shown in section; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse section of the same on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
The soft collar support consists essentially of a stiii'ening member A, preferably of horseshoe shape, and adapted to be placed intermediate the neckband B and the turned-down front portions B2 of a soft collar B, as plainly indicated in Fig. 1. The stiiening member A is preferably made of sheet metal in the form of a horseshoe,
` provided at the u per ends with' sidewiseextending flanges -the jointv or junction of the neckband B adapted to abut against with the turned-down front portions B2 of the' collarr B. Th'e vstiifening'r'nemb'er vA` is provided atthe bottolnw-ith a slotor recess D adapted'tob seated on the'- shank of a collar button so as to supporti the stiten ing member-'A and 'assist vin hoi'ding the same in positionv on the collar B; as above` de'- scribed and vshown in-Fig. 1. Buttons Fare h'eldon the stiifening'membery A` on-op'posite sids ofthe m'dian kline of the said Istt emng member; and the said buttons F are adapted lto engagel the usual butt'onholesBa formed in the turned=down front portions i32 Patenteaoan. c; infra:v
ofthe collarB,as shown in Fig. 1. As the positions of' the' buttmrh'oles Ba vary,-it' is desirabl'eto permit of' changing the posiL tions of lthe buttons rF on the stffeninfgmem'# .ber A toco'rrespond'to the buttonholes B,
and' fbi this purpose' vtllle buttons' F are adustasiy moimt'ed' on' the stiiiiening mmeri As shown' in'xthe drawings, the stilning memberA' is provided-with slots'G through which extends the shank extensions F of the buttons E, and-ontheshankextensions IF are held front and rear washers H and H engaging `the front and rear faces of the stiffening member A, as plainly indicated in Fig. 4. Each of the slots G is provided with a number of seats spaced apart and extending in different directions, any one of the seats being adapted to be engaged by the shank extension F of the corresponding button F.
It will be noticed by reference to Fig. 3 that each of the slots G with its 'seats permits of adjusting the button u p or down or sidewise to properly locate the buttons on the stii'ening member A relative to the positions of the buttonholes B3 on the turneddown front portions B2 of the collar B.
It will be noticed that when the sup ort is in position on the collar, the turne -down front portions B2 of the collar are held stretched in an up and down direction owing to the buttons F engaging the buttonholes B3 and the arms G abutting against the joint of the neckband B with the turned-down front portions B2 of the collar. It will further be noticed that the collar support does not interfere in the least with the necktie, and the support prevents the turned-down front portions of the collar from Wrinkling pso that a neat appearance of the collar is Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Let-l tions, the lower side portions of the member ters Patent; 1 being provided with slots having a plurality 1. A collar support', comprising a stifenof seats, and buttons one for each slot and ing member adapted to be placed between adapted to engage buttonholes in the turned.- the neckband and the turned-down front down front portions of the collar, each butportions of ,the collar, the said stifening ton having a shank extension engaging the member'having upwardly extending spaced slot and adapted to be seated' in any one of portions terminating in laterally extending the seats, and washers held on the shank arms, the upper edges of the said arms abutextension and engaging the front and rear ting against the joint of the said neckband faces of the stiflening member.
and turned-down portions, and buttons held 4. A collar support, comprising a stiifener adjustable sidewise and up and down on the made of sheet material and having a bottom said stiifening member and disposed atlopmember and upwardly extending spaced side posite sides of the median line of .the said members, the bottom member being provided stiffening member, the said buttons being in its lower edge with a collar button slot adapted t0 engage buttonlioles in the front arranged in the median line of the stiiener turned-down portions of the collar. and adapted to engage the shank of the col- 2. A collar support, comprising a stiffenlar button, the upwardly extending spaced ing member adapt-ed to be placed between members terminating at their upper ends in the neckband and the turned-down front arms extending sidewise in opposite direcportions of the collar, the upper edge of the tions, and buttons on the lower part of said stifening member abutting against the joint stili'ener and disposed at opposite sides of of the said neokband and turned-down porthe median line of the stifi'ener, and the said tions, the said stiffening member being probutton hole slot. t vided at the lower side portions with slots, In testimony whereof I have signed my and buttons held vadjustable in the said slots name to this specification in the presence of and adaptel dto engage buttofnhlples in the two subscribing witnesses. front turne own ortions o t e collar.
