Description

S. O. SAWYER. DENTAL STERI-LIZER. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 7. 1913.

Inventor [by I V Attorneys SUMNER OLIVER SAWYER, OF TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN.
DENTAL STERILIZER.
1 ,osaacs.
Application filed January 7, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SUMNEPL O. SAWYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Traverse City, in the county of Grand Traverse and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Dental Sterilizer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for dental chairs and more particularly to a sterilizing receptacle adapted to be attached to the cuspidor which is used in con nection with a dental chair.
The object is to provide a sterilizing receptacle in which are placed the glasses or paper cup and to effectively sterilize the latter.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof, the preferable form of my invention is illustrated, in which Figure l is a view in elevation of my improved sterilizer attached to a dental cuspidor, the sterilizer being enlarged. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view thereof.
Referring to the drawing in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 is a circular base preferably formed of metal and suitably coated to present a neat and attractive appearance. Mounted upon and secured to the base plate 1 is the circular rim 2 to which is rigidly secured the outstanding arm 3 which serves as an attaching means whereby the sterilizer may be securely held to the cuspidor of a dental chair.
Removably mounted within the rim 2 and effecting a seal joint with the base 1 is the glass cylinder 4-, The said glass cylinder is open at its upper and lower end and comprises the body of the sterilizer. Removably mounted and frictionally engaging the upper extremity of the glass cylinder is the annular flange 5 and the depending rim 6. Hingedly mounted as at 7 is a cap 8 preferably formed of metal and suitably coated Specification of Letters Patent.

and so that the entire sterilizer will. present a pleasing appearance.
Rigidly secured to the base plate 1 and preferably located centrally thereof is the cup 9 in which is adapted to be laced a volatile antiseptic which will steri ize any article placed within the cylindrical body portion.
The sterilizer has been designed principally for the sterilization of glasses or paper cups which are used in connection with dental outfits and the extending arm 3 has been designed to be attached to a cuspidor of a dental chair. It is to be understood however, that the improved sterilizer herein described may be used in other connections. In order that a number of glasses or cups may be sterilized at the same time the base plate-1 is preferably formed with radial corrugations 10 which allows the volatile antiseptic to circulate freely throughout the body portion of the sterilizer, thus as illustrated in Fig. 2 a number of glasses placed one upon the other may be sterilized at the same time, it being pointed out in this connection that the glasses do not fit tightly one upon the other but have a space therebetween suflicient to allow the volatile antiseptic gas to come in contact with and sterilize all portions of the different glasses.
Having thus fully disclosed the construction and operation of my improved device, what I claim to be new and original with me is 1. A sterilizer for drinking glasses comprising a base, a cylindrical body portion mounted thereon, a lid hingedly secured to the upper extremity of said body portion, a cup rigidly secured to said base and adapted to receive an antiseptic therein, and an outstanding arm rigidly secured to the said base forming attaching means for said sterilizer.
2'. A sterilizer for drinking glasses comprising a radially corrugated base, an outstanding arm rigidly secured thereto, a cylindrical body portion disposed upon said base and eflecting a seal joint therewith, a lid hingedly secured to the upper extremity of said body portion, and a cup rigidly secured to said base and adapted to receive an antiseptic therein.
3. A sterilizer for a dental chair cuspidor comprising a circular base, an upstanding rim supported thereby, a glass body portion mounted upon said base, an annular flange and depending rim mounted upon the upper end of said body portion, a hinged lid secured thereto, a cup rigidly secured to said base and disposed centrally thereof, adapted to receive therein a volatile antiseptic and an outstanding arm secured to said base rim forming thereby securing means for said sterilizer.
4. A sterilizer comprising a circular radially corrugated base, an upstanding rim ad jacent the edges thereof, an outstanding arm secured to said rim, a glass cylindrical body portion disposed Within said rim and supported upon said base, an annular flange and depending rim secured to theupper end of said glass body portion, a hinged lid secured thereto and a cup adapted to receive an antiseptic, therein secured to said base and disposed centrally thereof.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
