VOUCEER-CHECK.
Application filed February 11, 1913.
To all fui/20m it' may concern Be it known that l, lVnNDnLL D. Mifune, a citizen of the United States, residing at N iles, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Voucher-Checks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to voucher checks and its object is to provide an instrument of this nature which may be folded and sealed to conceal matter contained on one face thereof and which, when folded and sealed, presents on one face thereof a check, draft, order, or the like and on the Yother face thereof a space for indorsements.
More specifically my invention comprises an instrument of the character described, provided with means for affording ready access to the concealed matter.
Other minor objects will appear hereinafter.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, Figure l shows that face of the instrument which contains the matter to be concealed; and Fig. 2 shows the reverse face of the instrument.
The matter to be concealed is shown on F ig. l as a voucher, containing on its upper portion certain indicia and ruled lines for identifying the parties to the account and their addresses. To illustrate the words, The Southern Steel Company, Largo, Ga, indicate the party owing the account. The line following the words, In favor of is for the party to whom the account is owed, his address to be written on the line following the word, Address. rlhe central portion of the voucher is ruled for the date, the items, the amounts of the items, and the total thereof, this portion with the upper portion constituting a statement of account. The lower portion contains words vouching the correctness of the account and the purpose for which the expense covered by the account was incurred. Suitable ruled lines are provided for the signatures of the auditor and treasurer or other officers, whose titles are indicated below the said lines. The voucher is folded lengthwise midway between the top and bottom edges, along the line l which may or may not be placed on the vouchers. The front face of the instrument is reserved for the check, draft, order, or the like, and the indicia and Specification of Letters Patent.

space for indorsements. 2 designates the checks, draft, order, or the like directing a designated depository to pay the sum of money due on the said account, to the person, firm or corporation to whom it is due. This portion 2 occupies the upper half. The remaining or lower half 2 contains suitable indicia and a space for indorsements of the payee and subsequent holders thereof. This portion may also contain a receipt by the payee for the payment of the account. A narrow strip l along one of the side edges of the voucher face and thence along the ends thereof to the line 1, that is, to the center of the ends, is provided with an adhesive, such, for example, as is used for the sealing of envelops.
The drawing shows a convenient form for applying the principle of my invention, made for the payment of a months salary. lt-may be assumed that the payer and payee do not desire to disclose the salary of the payee to the banking establishment at which the payee wishes to deposit the voucher check or to the several indorsers through whose hands the same may pass subsequently to the payees indorsement. The payee obeying suitable instructions, such as are shown at 5, placed on the reverse or voucher side of the instrument, folds the same along the line 1 or along the place where the line l is shown, matches the lower edge and the lower ends of the side edges with the edges on the upper portion provided with the adhesive, and seals the' matched edges in the .usual manner of sealing an envelop. Having done this, the check 2 will be upon one side of the folded sheet and the space for indorsements will be upon the opposite side thereof, the check and indorsement space occupying the same relative places that they do on ordinary commercial paper.
Upon the return of the sealed voucher check to the drawers or makers office the margin may, in ease it is desired to inspect the voucher portion, be cut off within the adhering edges, or the same may be torn o' along the perforated or weakened lines 6, if it is preferred to employ the same.
While l have suggested an adhesive such as is used on envelops for` sealing the voucher, l do not desire to be restricted to such sealing means as there are many other kinds of adhesivematerial and many other kinds of sealing devices which maj,7 be used in place of the adhesive suggested.
I claim- 1. The combination with a negotiable instrument on one half of the frontof a sheet of paper' and a space suitably indicated for indorsements on the remaining half of the front thereof, of a statement of account on which the instrument is based on the reverse side of the sheet and means for sealing,` the two halves of the statement of account face to face, the statement of account being folded between the said check and space for indorsements.
2. The combination with a negotiable instrument on one half of the front of a sheet of paper and a space suitably indicated for indorsements on the remaining half of the front thereof, of a statement of account on which the instrument is based on the re- Verse side of the sheet, means for sealing the edges of the two halves of the statement of account face to face, the stat-ement of account being folded between the said check and space for indorsements, and weakened lines within the said sealed edges.
Signed at Niles Ohio, this 7th day of February, 1913.
