To all 107mm it may concern Be it known that I, IVILLIAM H. Rioti- AnDsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Jersey City, county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag Reversing and Lining Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act speciiication.
My invention has for its object a device whereby bags may be readily, quickly and cheaply reversed and lined one within the other.
In the manufacture of the bags from textile materials such as hemp, linen, cotton, etc., the sides of the material are sewed together thus forming a. seam upon the outside, and hence it is necessary to reverse or turn the bags inside-out before they can be used commercially.
In the marketing of many commodities, such as sugar and other finely divided products where it is essential that the products themselves be maintained in a clean condition, it is necessary to inclose the products in a finely woven bag such as of linen or cotton, this bag being further inclosed in a heavy, coarse bag, usually of hemp, to withstand the handling incident to shipment. In order hat these bags may be readily iilled with the products, it is desirable that they be delivered to the manufacturer in such a condition that the product-s may be poured directly to the inner bag which has already been inclosed within the coarser hemp one. It is further desirable not only that this inner lining` bag be evenly and smoothly inclosed within the outer one, but also that the open end or mouth of the lining bag eXtend beyond the mouth of the outer bag in order that it may be readily held during the iilling, and that none of the product may be accidentally poured between the two bags.
My invention has for its object a device whereby the inner bag may be readily, quickly and advantageously inserted within the outer bag evenly and smoothly, and allowing the mouth of the inner bag to eX- tend beyond that of the outer bag during the process of reversing the bag.
The device. therefore, allows not only the production of a properly lined bag, but also saves two operations in that it reverses the bags and lines them by the same operation.
One form of my device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure l represents one form of my invention. F 2 represents a ground plan of the same. Fig. 3 represents the method of reversing' the lining bag. Fig. t represents the method of reversing the outer bag over the inner or lining bag.
In the accompanying drawings A, f and B B, are two pairs of uprights tixedly attached to the base D, and surmounted by the spherical knobs or ends C, C, C, C. It is advisable, but not essential, that the two outer or end uprights A and B be somewhat longer than the two inner ones A and B in order that the outer bag may slip over and inclose the inner one without dragging it from its position. The uprights may be composed of any material possessing suiticient rigidity to withstand the operations. The ends of the uprights should be rounded or topped with spherical ends as C, in order that the bags may easily and rapidly slip over them during the operation of reversing.
rIhe method of using my device is illustrated in Fig'. 3 and Fig. il. As shown in Fig. 3, the inner or lining bag F with the seams outside as at E, E is placed so that the lip G of the opening' of the bag` eX- tends slightly over the ends of the uprights A, B the ends of the uprights being forced upwardly against the outside surface of the bag. If the bag be grasped at the forward edge of the lip G near the sides of the bag and drawn down., the bag will be easily reversed or t-urned inside out with the seam on the inside. This inner bag is allowed to hang upon the uprights AU-B and the outer bag I-I is reversed in the same manner over the two end uprights A` B. The inner bag will thus be extended evenly and smoothly within the outer bag, and they may be removed by grasping both bags at the upper edge.
It is evident that there may be a deviation from the particular design illustrated and described without lgoing beyond the scope ot' my invention which consists of a device of the character specified comprising four uprights tixedly attached to a base and situated in a substantially parallel plane.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

A device of the character specilied, comprising four parallel upright elements attached to a base and situated approximately within one plane, the two outer longer elements being so situated with respect to eachother as to support a bag, and the two inner shorter elements being so situated with respect to each other and to the bagsupporting` elements as to support a lining for the bag. l

3. A device of the character specified, comprising two pairs of parallel metallic upright elements fixedly attached to a base and situated approximately in one plane, the distance between the two pairs of elements being materially greater than the distance between the members of each pair, the uprights being surmounted by rounded tops and the two outer end uprights being slightly longer than the two inner nprights.
