SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,941, dated November 2, 1880. Application filed May 21, 1880. (Model) To all whom it may, concern Be it known that I, SHELBY J. LOVE, a citizen of the United States. and resident of Thorndyke, in the county of Oabell and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Presses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in presses for expressing such articles as lard, oil, or other products; and it consists in the recessed walls A A and bottom of the receptacle B, in connection with outlet-aperture a in the mortiscsd), perforated interior casing, G, screw-standard D, having tenonsc c, and screw-plunger d, and in the combination and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, Figures 1 is an elevation of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a similar view of the receptacle.
A represents the walls of the press, which are adapted as to size for reception of the interior casing, .0. 7 These walls, composing, with the bottom B, the main receptacle of the press. have rigidly secured thereto at their opposite sides the mortises b b.
The bottom of the press is provided with the aperture a, which slopes with downward inclination from its center outward, to facilitate the easy outflow of the expressed product. The walls and bottom of this receptacle are checkered over with the points 6 0, whereby intermediate recesses are formed for reception of the article expressed, which is caused to flow, being forced into the outletaperture a, and from thence directly from the press or into a similar spout attached thereto. The walls are also provided with the recesses f f for reception of the handles g g.
0 marks the interior perforated casing. It is constructed of metal or other suitable material, which snugly fits the main receptacle, and is provided with the ring-handles g g at its upper opposite sides.
The screw-standard D has located at a point exactly intermediate between its vertical clamps h h, and in the center of its horizontal supporting-bridge i, the screw d, with plunger d and wheel E, and it has rigidly secured to its vertical clamps the tenons c c.
To the end of the screw d which is located in the female screw of the bridge is loosely secured the plunger d, which is conformed as to size to the interior dimensions of the easing 0, which casing it loosely fits. The screw projects through the plunger, and its unthreaded end rotates freely therein, and it is secured by the washer m, in connection with the horizontal pin n.
The tenons c c are designed, in connection with the mortises b b, as the means of securing the screw-standard to the walls of the receptacle B.
In practice the casing is inserted in the receptacle B, and into the former is placed the article to be expressed. The screw or its equivalent mechanical expedient is then rotated, and as the plunger 01 descends the lard or other product is forced out of the aperture a.
I am aware that presses have been employed for extracting oil,tallow, &c., as shown in the patent of A. Randall, reissued Jul y 22, 1862, No. 1,324; but his press is dissimilar to that shown in my inventionand the machinery he employs is complex.
My press can be constructed at little cost. It is especially designed, being light, portable, simple in construction and operation, and by reason of the facility with which the residuum of the article expressed can be removed, as a greatly-needed utensil for farmers domestic use.
What I claim is- The combination of the receptacle B, having mortises b b, screw-standard D, with tenons c a, screw d, and plunger d, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
