JACOB B. MALEN, 6F DETROET, MIfiHIGAN.
WATER-HEATER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAcoB B. lldALEN, a citizen of the Empire of Russia, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water- Heaters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in water heaters and more particularly to a heater which is especially adapted for heating water in the well known form of wash boiler, the object of the invention is to provide a heater of the above character whereby water contained within any well known form of wash boiler may be quickly and readily heated.
Another object of the invention is to provide a heater of the above character which will possess advantages in points of ciliciency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a vertical sectional view of my improved heater; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view; and Fig. 8 is a top plan view,
- the boiler being removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates a wash boiler of any well known form having the usual bottom 2 therein which is adapted to rest upon the angularly disposed ends 3 of the supporting members 6. A second bottom member is provided and is generally designated by the numeral 4, said bottom being formed of metal and provided with a lining 4 which is a non-conductor of heat. The second bottom 4 is to be formed in any shape so that the same will conform with the size and shape of various forms of wash boilers. Projecting upwardly from the second bottom are the side walls 5, the upper edges of which are provided with an inwardly projecting annular flange so as to prevent the heat from escaping upwardly between the aide walls of the boiler and the wall 5. The central portion of the bottom 2 of the boiler is supported by a central "standard 7 Specification of Letters Eatent.

having a plate 8 upon the upper end thereof upon which the medial portion of the bottom 2 is adapted to rest.
Arranged within the wall 5 and spaced from the bottom 4 are the burners 9, which are preferably arranged beneath each end of the boiler whereby the water in the boiler may be quickly and readily heated. The wall 5 is provided with a plurality of air openings 10 for supplying a' suilicient amount of air to the chamber beneath the boiler. It will also be seen that the products of combustion may also be discharged through the openings 10. It will be apparent that when the boiler is mounted upon the supports 6, the bottom thereof'will extend beneath the upper edge of the wall 5, so that the heat from the burners 9 will be directed against the bottom 2 of the boiler 1 and it will be apparent that by having the walls extend up beyond the bottom of the boiler, more heat will be conveyed to the bottom than if the wall terminated short of the bottom of the boiler and permitted the heat to escape from the chamber beneath the boiler.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and durable heater whereby water contained within the well known form of boiler may be quickly and readily heated. It will also be apparent that the device is extremely simple in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features of construction or departing from the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is In combination with a boiler, of a bottom member arranged in spaced relation and beneath the bottom of the boiler, a non-flammable lining for said bottom, an upwardly extending wall formed on said bottom and having an inwardly extending flange at its upper edge forming a chamber beneath the boiler, supporting members having angularly disposed upper ends adapted to support the boiler so that the bottom thereof In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my is arranged Within the upper end of the signature in the presence 01:" witnesses.
