UTE j MICHAEL S. COLE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CIGAR-HOLDER.
Application filed February 25, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Mtcimun S. Conn, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Holders, of which the following is a SpCCiIi'ttttiOll.
This invention is an improved cigar holder embodying a mouth piece and spring actuated jaws to engage a cigar in the mouth piece and hold the same therein, the object of the invention being to provide an improved cigar holder which adapted to hold a cigar so securely therein that there is no danger of the cigar becoming casually dislodged.
In the accompanying drawing :F igure 1 is a side elevation of a cigar holder constructed in accordance with mv invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view oi. the same on the plane indicated by the line a--o of Fig. 1.
The month piece 1 of my improved cigar holder may be of any suitable size and shape and may be made of any suitable material. Near the inner end 01: the mouth piece, or that end thereof in which the cigar receiving socket provided, is an annular circum- :t'erential groove 2. A ring 3 is arranged in this groove and this ring forms the pivot for a series of jaws 4t each of which is formed at one end with a hook 5 to engage one side of the cigar and at the other end with an arm (3 arranged on one side of the mouth piece. The pivotal portions 7 ot the jaws are arranged in radial recesses 8 with which the mouth piece is provided and which communicates with the annular groove so that the said jaws are held in place and equidistant around the cigar receiving end of the mouth piece. In connection with each jaw there is a spring 8 which Specification of Letters Patent.

bears between the arm and the month piece and serves to close the jaw against one side oi the cigar so that the hooks of the jaws are caused by the action of the springs on the jaws to become embedded in the cigar and thereby the jaws are enabled to securely hold the cigar in place in socket. of the mouth piece and prevent the cigar from becoming casually detached. 'hen it is dcsired to release the cigar, it is only necessary to first press inwardly on the arms (3 oi the jaws so as to disengage their hooked ends from the cigar against the tension of the springs.
lVhile I have herein shown and described a preferred form of the invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, noportion and construction of the several parts without departing 'l'rom the spirit of the invention and within the scope ot' the appended claim.
I claim 2* The hereindescribed cigar holder, embodying a mouth piece having an annular groove near its socket end and radial recesses communicating with said groove, a ring in said groove, jaws pivotally mounted on said ring and having their pivotal portions arranged in said recesses to prevent the ring from turning, each ot the said jaws being an ranged at one end to engage on one side of a cigar and also having an arm arranged longitudinally on the month piece, and springs bearing between said arms and mouth piece, said springs serving to normally engage the jaws with a cigar in the socket oi the mouth piece.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
