At its lower and straight edge-portion 12, the plate is formed with a rearwardly extending part 13 and an upwardly projecting portion 14, the said plate 10 and said upwardly projecting portion 14 providing two parts which are adapted to embrace the flap of the port-folio, or the like, when the plate 10 is secured in place, as will be clearly evident. The said upwardly projecting portion 14 is provided with a hole or perforation 15 of the proper size into which the previously-mentioned stud 9 of the lower main me .iber is inserted, in the manner indicated in Figs. 3 and L of the drawings, when the parts are brought into their closed relation shown in said figures. The said lower main member is provided in its faceplate 2 with an outwardly extendii'ig areshaped rib or projection, l6, and concentric with said rib or projection 16, the said plate is also provided with a series of inwardly projecting arc-shaped ribs or proof such ribs or projections 17 being employed, and such ribs or projections being of such length, so that a depressed part or space 18 will be provided between the ends of the respective adjacent ribs or projections 17, as will be clearly seen from an inspection of Fig. 5 of the drawings. The said face-plate 2 is also provided with a centrally disposed hole or perforation 19 forming a suitable bearing in which is rotatably disposed a pivotpin 20. Suitably fixed to the outer end-portion of said pin 20, so as to rotate with the same, is a holding or locking bar 21, the said bar being provided at its end-portions with knobs or projections 22, providing suitable finger-pieces for manipulating said bar, and the rear surface of the bar riding upon and bearing in frictional sliding engagement upon the outwardly extending arc-shaped rib or projection 16 of the face plate 2, as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 2 and at of the drawings. Suitably fixed upon the inner end-portion of said pivot-pin 20, which projects into the chamber 4, is a retaining disk or plate, as 23, said disk or plate being preferably male cup-shaped, as indicated in Fig. 6 of the drawings, and having a marginal flange, as Upon oppositely disposed portions, this flange is slitted, as at 25 and 26, so as to provide a pair oppositely projecting and slightly downwardly extending springfingers 27 and 28. Upon their free end-portions, these fingers are made with V-shaped, or other suitably shaped, holding or retaining elements or members 29 which are adapted to slide upon said inwardly projecting arc shaped ribs or projections 17, and are re spectively adapted, when the bar 21 and pivot-pin 20 are rotated, to positively snap or spring into removable holding or retaining engagement with the oppositely located depressed parts 18 formed between the ends of the adjacent ribs or projections 17, in the manner clearly represented in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. The assembled arrangement of the parts is such, that a binding frictional relation of the bar 21 and the retaining disk or plate 23 with the opposite sides of the face-plate 2 will be had, but such binding frictional relation of the parts being insuflicient to prevent the manipulation and ready rotation of the bar 21 from its locking relation into its unlocked. relation, and vice versa.

The manipulation of the catch and its operation will be clearly understood from the foregoing de cription of the present invention, and from an inspection of the several figures of the drawings, and a further description of the same is therefore deemed unnecessaryrand, it will be evident from the foregoing description of the present invention that I have devised a simply constructed and neat catch, the two holding members of which, when the parts are in their locked relation, can not become accidentally unlatched, and the two members being positively retained in their latched relation, until the bar 21 is manipulated by the operator.

1 am aware that some changes may be made in the general arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, without departing from the scope of the present invention as set forth in the foregoing specification and as defined in the clauses of the claims which are appended thereto. Hence, I do not limit my present invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the said devices and parts as described in the said s iiecification, nor do 1 confine myself to the exact details of the construction of the said parts as illus trated in the accompanying drawings.

A catch for port-folios, and the like, comprising a lower and an upper member, said lower member being made in the form of a chambered shell or casing, a plate-like member extending upwardly from said chambered shell or casing, a retaining means connected with said plate-like member and said upper member for bringing said lower and upper members into locked engagement, a pivot-pin rotatably connected with said chambered shell or casing, a holding bar mounted. upon said pin for rotating said pin, and a retaining disk within said chambered shell or casing also mounted upon said pin, and spring-fingers connected with said disk, said fingers being provided at their free ends with retaining elements in slidable engagement with the inner surface portions of said shell or casing for retaining said holding bar in its variously rotated positions.

A catch for port-folios, comprising a lower and an upper member, said lower member being made in the form of a chambered shell or casing, a plate-like member extending upwardly from said chambered shell or casing, a retaining means connected with said plate-like member and said upper member for hinging said lower and upper member into locked engagement, a pivot-pin rotatably connected with said chambered shell or casing, a holding bar mounted upon said pin for rotating said pin, and a retaining disk within said chambered shell or casing also mounted upon said pin, and said chambered shell or casing being provided with a series of inwardly project ing arc-shaped ribs formed with retaining depressions between said ribs, and means connected with said disk in slidable engagement with said ribs and adapted to be engagement with said retaining depressions for retaining said holding bar in its variously rotated positions.
