FELIX STEINHOFF, OF ELBERFELD, GERMANY.
RACK OR SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 28, 1913.
Patented Nov. 1 8, 1913.
Serial No. 770,376.
To all whom 2'25 may concern Be it known that I, F max S'rinxi-rorr, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at lillbert'eld,in the Province of Rhenish lrussia, Geri'nany, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Racks or Supports, ojliwhich the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a rack or support for the display of articles in windows, show cases and the like, and the object o't' my in ventio-n is to provide for a device of the kind referred to, which, though hidden from sight permits secure adjustment in various positions of inclination of the objects sup ported, as well as convenient removal and replacing of the same, the said improved device presenting such additional advantages as are mentioned and referred to hereinafter.
I attain my object aforesaid by the construction and arrangement as hereinafter described and as illustrated on the drawing herewith, in which Figure 1 is a perspective rear view of my device with an object for display, as a cigar box, thereon; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the said object in another position or degree of inclination; Fig. 3 is a perspective front view in still another position hereinait'tcr referred to, part of the object sup ported being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. l is a vertical section through my improved device and an object supported by the same.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The drawing shows a guide member a formed of a flat metal plate, bent at right angles and provided on the side facing the object to be supported with sharp teeth Z) (see F 3), which may by a slight pressure he punched into the rear edge or back portion of the object to be supported, as shown in Fig. l. The upright wall of the piece a, which supports the bottom of the box, has a rectangular opening (Z, in which is hooked or otherwise placed a supporting bracket f, g, h, preferably triangular in form which may be formed out of a strip of sheet metal, so that, when the device is in use, either of the sides or legs 9 h of the stand, which are of the same width as the opening (Z (the third side being broader) may be passed through the opening (Z. The side or it which then faces the bottom or rear of the box or other object to be displayed is clamped in the said opening and slidably retained in the frame 2' formed by the same, while the adjoining side of like width (g as shown in l igs. 1 and 2) acts as a brace or prop. The object supporting side may be moved to such an extent as the length of the same will permit and thus any desired degree of inclination between the highest and the lowest of the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2 obtained. \Vhenever it is desired to give an object, as a box, a less inclined position, the triangular stand may by the corner between the legs or sides g and lb, which corner I prefer for this purpose to be of roundish shape, be passed or swung about, so that the adjoining side is now in the guide frame 1', as is shown in Figs. 3 and t, in which it nmwslidablc in accordance with the length of the other.
It will be easily understood that by electing either of the sides or legs of the triangle adjoining each other to act as support-piece slidable in the frame the range of adjustability accordingly increased, so that the supporting member and supporting side and therewith the object to be exhibited, as, for instance, a box filled with cigars, may be given any desired angle of inclination.
The device, being of sheet metal, is cheap to manufacture and the embedded teeth referred to firmly hold to the object sup ported.
In order to permit the adjustment of the movable lid of a cigar box or other object, independent of the position of the box itself, an additional arm K: may be jointed to the plate a, the free end of the said arm carrying a small plate in hinged thereto, which plate m may also be provided with one or a plurality of sharp teeth a, similar to those provided on the plate a, which teeth a may be punched into the lid, and the lid as well as the body of the box may consequently be held in any desired position.
Handles 0 may be provided in the plate a to assist in the convenient removal of the device, the said handles to be formed by a mere bending around of suitable lugs from the said plate a.
Changes may be made in the construction of my device without departing from the spirit of my invention. Thus it may be made of wire instead of sheet metal or of any other material suitable for the purpose and it may be made with or Without the special lid support referred to.
I claim 1. In a supporting device for exhibiting boxes and other articles in various positions of inclination, a bent flat guide member fitting the bottom and rear of the box provided with teeth adapted to be embedded therein and having a guide opening, in combination with an arm hinged to said memher and provided with a plate having teeth adapted to be emaedded in the box lid, supporting the same in open position, and a supporting bracket provided wit-h two sides differing in length, each fitting interchangeably the said opening and ad uStable therein to vary the angle of inclination of the open box. 7
2. In a supporting device for exhibiting boxes and other articles in various positions of inclination, a bent fiat guide member fitting the bottom and rear of the box and having a guide opening in its part which is against the latter, in combination With an arm attached to said member and adapted to support the box-lid in open inclined position and a supporting bracket having two 1 sides difiering in length, interchangeably fitting said guide opening and adjustable 1gherein for varying the inclination of the 3. In a supporting device for exhibiting boxes and other articles in various positions of inclination, a bent fiat guide-member fitting the bottom and rear of the box and having a guide opening in its part which is against the latter, in combination with a supporting bracket having a part fitting said opening and adjustable therein to Vary the inclination and means attached to said guide-member for supporting the box-cover in various positions of inclination independent of the inclination of the box.
. 4. A flat integral angular guide plate fitting against the rear and bottom of a box which is to be exhibited, in combination with a separate part engaging and guided by said plate and adjustable to hold said box in various positions of inclination and means attached to one of said parts for holding the box cover adjustably in various positions of inclination independent of the inclination of the box. 7
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
