PATENT \VALTER WV. BLOYV, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
WATCH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of ,Letters Patent No. 283,855, dated August .28, 1883.
Application filed May 17, 1883.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, XVALTER WV. Brow, of Oakland, county of Alameda, State of California, have invented an Improved WatchHolder; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to a device by which an open Watch may be conveniently supported, with its face in an upright position, so as to be easily read whenever desired, and which device may also support a suitably sized and shaped match-safe, photograplrholder, or jewel-case, as will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view of my device arranged to hang upon a vertical wall. Fig. 2 shows its application to a standing bracket. 7
A is a back-piece, which may be made of wood, metal, pa-pieranach, or any suitable material, and may be either flat or slightly recessed to receive the back of the watch, at the point where it is to be supported, and it may have a lining, D, of velvet or other material, with more or less elaborate ornamentation. A curved wire, 13, has its ends G G bent to one side, so that they may be secured in the face of the back-piece A, and the curved portion thus stands parallel with the face of A, as shown. Small flanges a may be fixed to the arms 0, so that the wire can be clinched or riveted, and firmly kept in place, and the watch be not scratched by such fastenings. The watch thus slips in behind this curved portion, which arches around in front of its upper periphery, while the stem rests upon one of the arms 0, and the hinge of the front cover or case upon the other arm, 0, the case (No model.)
being open. As the hinge is of such length that its point of support will not be just opposite that of the stem, and in order to hold the watch vertically, it is necessary to bend the wire, so that the left side C is lower than the right, as shown.
The part A may be hung or fixed permanently in any convenient position on a wall,
or upon the head of the bed; or it may be so shaped as to rest upon a table or stand, with a supportingbraee behind. fest that a match-safe, photographholder, or a jewel-case, E, might be attached to or formed with the back-piece A.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A watch-holder consisting of the back A, in combination with the upward curve B, having the arms 0 O, bent at right angles with its face, so as to hold the watch in a vertical position, substantially as' herein described.
2. A watch-holding device-consisting of a back-piece A, having an upwardly-curved wire or similar strip, B, attached to it by arms 0 G, which support it a short distance from the face and parallel thereto, one of said arms, G, being lower than the other, 0, substantially as herein described.
3. A stand-bracket consisting of the back A, watch-holding deviceB O (3, and cushions D, a and a, and the receptacle E, for the purpose described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand.
