'it may concern Be it known thatI, ELLA V.'HoU`GiiTon'-,' va. citizen of the UnitedStates, and a. resident of Philadelphia, in the, county of Phila? delpliia and State of Peiuisylvania, have in. vented a new and Iiiiproved Removable Sanitary Hat-Lining, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription.
Aniong the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide.
a liningr pack 'of the character designated, economically constructed and readily detachable; to provide a single-service -lining which may be removed from the hat by each prospective customer, prior to, or siibsequent to, trying on a hat--to prevent the transference of vermin, possible as an Inci- `dent of the common practice of the trying on of hats in stores; to provide an econoniical and ellicieiit means for ii'ioiintiiig a niinibero'l linings of' the character herein described and for applying and adapting said inountiiig and attached linings to hats of varioiis shapes and sizes.
One embodiment'. of the present invention is shown-1n the accompanying drawings, in
which- Figiire 1 isa pictorial vview of a hat. having a removable sanitarylining constructed and arraiigedin accordance *with the present, iiiveiition; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of a 'hat equipped with a riioiint'ing device construct-ed and arranged iii accordance with' the present invention; F ig. 3 is a detail view in perspective, showing alining pack co'nst-riicted and arranged in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 4 is a detail view, on -an enlarged scale', showing in vertical section a hat, of 'conventional construction having a lining pack constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; Fi'v. 5 is a detail view, onan enlarged scale, showing a fragment of a'lining pack, the laininations or layers being separated to showthe manner of assem lage;l

edges ofthe sheets 16 are .perforatedto formlorilices `17 through which are usally passed retainerslS of a hoop 19. .The hoop 19 is primarily-"mounted, as shown in Fig.
)Zof the drawings, withina hat crown and adjacent the lower edge thereof. Any suitmay be In nial ingtlie`pa-clc as many sheets of layers of lining as 'are deemed necessary may be employed. The material from which thesev linin are usually consti'iictedis iaper inay be iiscd for stitching the .hoop in'positissue, therefore a. number of vsuch ayers may he disposed one upon the other without increasing the tlncknessof the pack unduly.
.is a i-iile, I prefer that-the packs shall have" ,sufficient thicknessto somewhatsolidify the structure, to maintain vthe dome-like form shown. in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
d lion' transporting or storing-packs cons'tiiictid as herein described, it lwill be un.
tlcrstood thatthey nest snugly one within the other, thereby saving inthe necessary storagespace. g
The packs are. preferablysplit to form lapping scctionsQO. The innermost'.V of the lsections .20 presents the raworfci'i't edge of (ach layer of the pack, to permit the attendant or person about. to try on the hat to catch the edge and tear ont ror remove from the liattlie outermost layer or sheet 16 of the rciiiovahle lining or pack.
When the packs-are constructed asshown and described, and a hat. is cqiiipped'with a hoop, siieh as 19, the pack is introduced into the crown of the hat by inserting the retainers 1S through the orificesA 17. The
may be lient over the edge of the pack, as
seen in Fig. 1 of the drawings, t0, thereafter hold the saine vsecurely within the' crown of. tlieliat.
'hen the packlias been 'completely ex-i` liaiisted', the band 15 is removed by straightening the retainers 18 to the position shown in Fig. 2 of thedrawings, when, as may be readily seen, the bund 15 may beqiickly and readily removed.
lVhile I have herein described the cinployment of a movable lining constructed and arranged in accordance with the presontI invention. in its application to ladies liats, ii;-\vill be iinderstood that the saine is equallyv available for employment inconnection with gintlemens hats and caps or cliildrens hoods.
