CHAMBER ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 28,1913.
Application filed September 11, 1912. Serial No. 719,806.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Mrnon E. Hons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Chamber Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to attachments for chamber vessels, and an object thereof is to provide a device which is adapted to be disposed within the vessel, whereby the use thereof will not be accompanied by any noise.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which comprises a curved rectangular plate having a central longitudinal ridge which is adapted to break up the stream and allow it to flow to the bottom of the vessel gradually, whereby the noise usually resultant from the stream striking the water already in the vessel is avoided.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily connected to or disconnected from the vessel, which may be cheaply manufactured, and which consists in the con struction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustratedin the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side view of the device in place, the vessel being shown in section; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the attachment; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a view of the blank out of which the attachment may be formed.
Corresponding; and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by like reference characters.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a vessel of the character above mentioned, and 2 designates a rectangular plate or water pan of any desired material which is preferably coated with a noncorrosive substance and is bent upwardly at one end and curved to form a hook 3 which is adapted to engage the upper edge of the vessel. The main portion of the plate is inclined downwardly and is adapted to extend within the vessel, and the opposite end of the plate is bent downwardly as at 5 and is adapted to rest against the bottom of the vessel to form afoot-piece for supporting the device in position.
The opposite sides of the plate between the curved ends are formed with upwardly ex tending concave-convex flanges 6 and a central longitudinal ridge 7 is also formed on the plate between the curved ends thereof, whereby a pair of longitudinal channels 8 is provided in the plate between the ridge 7 and the flanges 6.
In the practical use of the device, the plate 2 is supported in the vessel by means of the hook 3 and the foot-piece 5 and when the vessel is used in the ordinary manner, the stream is directed against the ridge 7 which serves to divide it and direct it against the flanges 6 of the plate, whence the water will flow gradually to the base of the vessel in the channels 8. It will be apparentthat the ater will be prevented from flowing over the sides of the plate by reason of the flanges, which serve to guide the water back into the channels.
What I claim is:
The hereindescribcd attachment for vessels comprising an elongated plate of uniform width throughout its body portion and having a relatively narrow hooked terminal at one end projecting from one side of the plate for engagement over the edge of the vessel, and a curved supporting foot at its opposite end projecting from the opposite side of the plate with respect to said hooked terminal and being also of less width than the intermediate portion of the plate, said plate having a central longitudinal ridge substantially coextensive in length with its wider intermediate portion and upstanding curved flanges on its longitudinal edges at either side of said rib, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ailix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
