To all whom z't may concern: 7 I
Be it known that I, MIcHAEn SIfORLEDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado City, in the county of Pas'o and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watches,-
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in watches or time pieces, and has special ref erence to improvements in the means or 'devices for connecting the hair spring with the balance cook or bridge.
The aim of the invention is the provision of means for connecting the stud er the hair spring with the balance cook or bridge, such means being of the simplest and cheapest possible construction and permitting instant application or detachment of 'the spring from the balance cock or bridge, as may be found necessary. Another object of my invention is the provision of devices for'co'nnecting the stud of the hair spring with the balance cock or bridge, which means will under all conditions retain the spring in proper adjustment, which will be capable of adllu'sting. the tension of the spring if desired, and
which in general will appeal to persons skilled in the art as presenting a thoroughly eflicient and practical improvement of this character from every point of view.
With the attainment of these objects in view, my invention consists in means of the character and for the purpose stated embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
In order that the detailed construction of my invention and its application and operation may be fully understood as well as its numerous advantages be thoroughly appreciated, I have illustrated in the accompanying drawings various embodiments of my invention and for a fuller understanding of my improvements I invite attention to such drawings.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a balance cook or bridge equipped with my improvement. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view to illustrate the location of my improvements when in operative position. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of a modified construction of my invention. Figs. 4 and 5 represent, respectively, a perspective view and a top plan view of another modified construction of my invention, and Fig. 6
representsa detail view of this modified construction of stud fastening means.
In 'the several views of the drawings, I have illustrated a series of constructions of devices for -connecting the hair spring with the balance cock or bridge, all of which constructions embody the same broad or generic construction, and in said drawings, the numeral 1 I designates the balance book or bridge of the form and construction usually empldyed in watches at time fpieces,
and in the construction shown in Figs. 1
and 2 the bridge is formed upon one side with a hug '2, havin its lower surface 3 disposed horizontally and having its 'upper face formed with the flat horizontal portion 4, and the contiguous channel or 'kerf 5, and the lug is provided with a smooth opening or passage (3.
The hair spring 7 carries the stud 8, which is as shown in 'Figs. 1 and '2, of rounded form upon one surface, and with this stud engages the similarly curved hook 9, which is formed with the shank 10 smooth for a proper distance and terminating in the threaded end 11, the smooth shank passing through the opening 6 and the projected threaded portion 11 receiving a milled nut 12 which serves to secure the hook and in consequence the stud of the hair spring in proper place as Well as permitting the instant release of the stud when found necessary, the hook being retained by means of a pin 13 abutting the hook.
From this construction it will be observed that it is simply necessary to place the stud to which the hair spring is connected in the channel or kerf of the bridge or cook and apply the hook to the stud which is then tightened upon the stud by means of the nut, and to remove the hair spring it is simply necessary to release the adjusting nut which removes the hook from contact with the stud and permits instant release.
In the form of my invention shown in Fig. 3 I provide in place of the single lug a pair of parallel disposed lugs 13 between which the hook 14 is mounted and receives the securing pin 15 and in other respects the construction is identical with that shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In the modified form of the invention shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, the same general construction is employed except that the stud holding hook is formed with a shoulder 16 with which when the hook is in position between the pair of ears or lugs 18 the securing pin 19 engages for retain ing the hook in proper position between said ears or lugs.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, the invention will be readily understood by all skilled in the art and conversant with improvements of this character, and it will be at once apparent that I provide a simple, inexpensive and durable means which will absolutely retain the stud of the hair spring in its proper place; which means can be adjusted to suit circumstances and will permit of instant application or removal of the stud,
and which means will be of ornamental and attractive appearance and tend to embellish the appearance of the movement and will add practically nothing to the cost of the balance cock or bridge, while greatly en hancing its efficiency, desirability and use fulness.
I claim 1. In combination with the balance cock or bridge of a watch or timepiece, a hook carried by said balance cock or bridge, and a hair spring having a stud adapted to be engaged by said hook and means engaging the other end of said hook to secure the hook I in place and to retain the stud of the hair spring.
2. In combination with the balance cook or bridge, the hair spring connected theres with and having a stud at one end, a hook mounted in the balance cock or bridge and adapted to engage the stud carried bythe hair spring and means engaging the other end of said hook to secure the hook in place and to retain the stud of the hair spring.
3. In combination with the balance cock or bridge, the hair spring connected therewith and having a stud at one end, a hook adjustably mounted in the balance cook or bridge and adapted to engage the stud carried by the hair spring and means engaging the other end of said hook to secure the hook in place and to retain the stud of the hair spring.
4:. In combination with the balance cook or bridge of a watch or timepiece, a hair spring mounted in the bridge or cock and carrying a stud, means for securing the stud to the balance cock consisting of a hook for engaging the stud, a shank formed with the hook and mounted in the balance cock or bridge, and an adjusting nut carried by said shank for adjustably retaining the securing means in place.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MICHAEL SPORLEDER.
