Description
ccc-a site AnroiN- E -se]nurDECKER or AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK.
Lamer-aant 1i/fb. iwf/,550,l datedsepwnwer 20, 1870.
IMPROVEMENTIN CLAS-PS FOR .ELASTIC BANDS.
The Schedule referred to in theee Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom 'it may concern.-
Be it known'that I, ANTOINE SGBEYDECKER, of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, haveinvented a new and useful Ime provement iu Clasps for Elastic Bands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a'fnll, clear, and exact description thereof, which -wll enable others skilled in the art te make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying ydrawing forming part ot' this specification.
Figure l is a face view of my improved clasp, as attached to au elastic band.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view of the same, taken through the line x x, iigure 3.
' Figure 3 is an under-side view of the same.
Similar letters-of reference indicate corresponding clasp from coming in contact with the sleeve or other object about which the band is passed; and
It consists in clasp, constructed as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the outer part or cap of the ciasp, which is struck up so as to form a recess upon its lower side, to receive the ends of the elastic bands, and so as to form a rim around its edge tolreceive thclower or inner plate or disk B of. the clasp.
Thepart B fits within-the riniof the cap-partA, and Ahas a curved slot, b, formed near its edge, upon one side, toreceive a`=catch, al, formed by turning up a portion of thcrim ot' the cap A, whereby the two 'l .parts A B are hinged together, said slot bi. being 1on-` ger than the breadth of the catch al, tovallowthe part B to be partially rotated in its seat, 'to fasten and unfasten it. v A Y In the edge of the lplate B, opposite to the vslot b, is formed a notch, b2, to pass over a catch, a?, formed by turning upa portion ofthe rimof the cap A', opposite to the hinge-catch al, so that, by'shutting the parts together, and partially rotating the plate B in its seat, its edge will be carried beneath the catch a, and the other, Y A In' the middle of the plate B is formed a long slot, b3, to`receive and retain the ends of the' elastic` band. VThe edges of this slot are serrated, to more securely hold the ends of the'said band. A v
4Ihe ends of the elastic band, after being passed through the slot b3, are turned back, as shown in fig; 2, so as to be slightly clamped between the two parts A B, ih 'which position the serrated edges of the slot securely fasten it in place. vliaving thus described my invention,
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent; `is- An improved clasp for elastic bands, consistingof the cap A, having devices for retaining a plate, B, which is provided with a serrated slot, to receive and two parts of the clasp will be securely fastened to each hold the ends of the baud, substantially as herein shown and described.
.The'above speciication of my invention signed by f JAMES T. GRAHAM.
