BEDSTEAD.
Specification of LettersPatent.-
application ined July 1a, 1913. serial No. waess.
'Be it known vthat I, HENRY J. QurNoY, a-
Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New Yorkyhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare the following tor-be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the 'art to which it appertains to make and use the This inventionrelates to improvements in bedsteads and has for its primary objectthe provision of abedstead in which the spring vframe is detachably connected to blocks carried bythe head and foot' posts in a novel Another object of the'invention resides in 'the provision of a novelly constructed spring framewhich may-be lengthened or shortened so as to regulate the tension of thesprings.
With these and other objects in view, as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the in ention consists in certain novel features o f construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafterdescribed and claimed.
vention, I provide a bedsteadhaving the head and foot pieces 5 and 6, respectively, and a spring frame, generally designated 7 which serves to support the head and foot pieces in their proper positions.
The head and foot 'pieces are of essentially similar construction and include 4the vertical posts 8 and 9. .A laterally .extending rectangular block 10' is formed upon each vpost and isj'provide'd with a vertical groove or socket 11, which extends entirely therethrough and which opens on the outer face thereof. The blocks carried by the "posts extend toward the ltransverse center of f the beds'teadand the blocks upon .thel head posts are opposed to those uponv'the,
posts. l f,
The spring frame comprises 4end bars 12 to permit the attachment of thespring 14.
rateated'oet. j', ferai The lower edges of 4the vertical sides1`5 of,
these'angle bars rest upon the blocks 10 and are supported thereby. Angular side plates 1'6 are integrally formed upon the ends of the bars 12 'and' depend therefrom. These side plates are disposed upon the outer faces of therblocks 10 and have portions 17 which extend longitudinally beyond the inner ends thereof As clearly shown in Fig. 1, the lower edges 18 of the side pieces are disposed in a plane below the lower faces of the supporting` blocks.
The connection between each block andv the corresponding sidepiece 16 isvformed by a somewhat dovetailed tongue or projection which is received within the socket 11.
Side bars 20 which are formed with right hand threads upon one end and left hand threads upon the other end, are received v'i5v v19 which is rigid with the side piece and sor within threaded sockets 2l' 'formed integrally with the inner faces ofthe side seen that the side bars may be rotated so as to vary the distance between the end bars 12 pieces upon the extensionsv17. It will be and thus change the tension upon the'l springs 14. This feature of'my device is of importance as it allows the springs to be tightened from time to time.
When the bedstead is assembled the' end bars rest upon the blocks 10, theside piecesengage the outer faces thereof, and :he sockets 21 abut against the inner ends of the bars. This arrangement of the parts cooperates with the projections/19 and the grooves or sockets 11, to provide a very rigid and strong structure. The bedstead may be easily taken apart by removing the spring frame from engagement with the blocks 10.
From the foregoing description taken *in connectionwith the accompanying drawings, it will be 'evident thatV I have provided a novelly contructed bedstead of extremely simple and strong construction, consistmg of a small number of partswhich are easily assembled. l
It is' to be understood that while I have nient of my invention, l do not irish tohe.I
limited to this exact construction, combination, and arrangement of pntrts,Y but muy make such changes :is will fall Within the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described my inveiitioinwhgit I claim is A bedstead includinghead und foot pieces, supporting` blocks formed upon the suine und extending toward the transverse center ot," the bedstead, sind blocks being rectangular in shape and formed with vertical sockets opening upon the outer faces thereof, a spring supportingframe including end 'bars which rest upon the Supporting blocks, side pieces formed upon the extremities of the end bars and engaging the outer 'faces of the supporting blocks, said side pieces extending belonv the supporting blocks sind projecting' lengitinlinallyv beyond the inner ends thereof, projections formed upon the side pieces for re eption Within said sockets7 internally threaded sockets rigid With the inner farces of the side bars and abutting 'f against the ends of the supporting` blocks,
und side liars threaded into said las-.t inentioned sockets to connect the end bars.
In testimony whereof I ntlix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
