JOHN ROBERT CARTER, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
HEATING- DEVICE FORBATHS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 7,1913.
Application filed November 25, 1912, Serial No. 733,362.
the body of the user when brought into contact therewith and it consists essentially of means for circulating water at a suitable temperature over the outer surface of the bath around the top edge thereof from a suitable source of supply, to a suitable inlet as hereinafter more particularly explained by the following specification.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of a bath showing my device'applied thereto. Fig. 2, is an end elevation of a bath partially in section.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is'a bath.
A is the hot water pipe provided with the usual tap A and spout A A is the cold water pipe provided with the usual tap A and spout A AB is a branch pipe leading from the pipe B is a branch pipe leading from the pipe At 0 is a pipe leading from the branch pipes B and B and extending upwardly preferably beneath the roll A formed around the upper edge of the bath. The pipe C extends completely around the bath to the opposite side and B is an inlet opening communicating with the bath and into which the outlet end of the pipe C extends.
D is a valve located in the branch pipe B and D is a valve located in the branch pipe B. a
E is the waste pipe ofthe bath;
the water to pass from the hot water pipe A.
through the pipe C to the inlet B leading to the bath. If the upper edge of the bath formed by the roll A becomes too hot the heat may be tempered by turning on the tap D so as to allow cold water to flow from the pipe A into the pipe C to mix with the hot water therein until the required temperature is obtained comfortable to the bather. When this is attained the taps D and D may be turned ofi and the ordinary taps A and A may be turned on as desired to fill the bath. If desired the water may be carried directly to the waste pipe instead of into the bath.
From this description it will be seen that I have devised a very simple means whereby the upper portion of the bath may be rendered comfortable to the bather, should such portion of the bath come in contact with the body of the bather.
What I claim as my invention is 1. In a heating device for baths, the combination with a bath having hot and cold water supply pipes and a waste pipe, of a circulating pipe extending around the bath and terminating in an inlet, branch pipes connecting said circulating pipe with said hot and cold water supply pipe, and connecting said circulating pipe with said waste pipe, valves for regulating the flow and temperature of the water through the circulating pipe, and means for directing such flow into the bath or to said waste pipe.
2. In a heating device for baths and the like, the combination with the bath having a suitable inlet opening, of a water supply device, of a pipe leading from the water supply device around the bath to the inlet opening, a Waste pipe and a controlling valve designed to control the admission of Water from the circulating pipe to the Waste pipe and the interior of the bath.
3. In a heating device for baths and the like the combination with a bath and the hot and cold Water supply pipes and waste pipe, of a duct leading around the rim of 10 the bath, separate branch pipes com1nuni cating between the hot and cold Water supply pipes andthe duct and separate controlling valves for the branch pipes designed to regulate the proportionate flow of'vvater through such branch pipes to the surround 15 Copies of this patent may be obtained for five centseach, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
