Be it known that I, Ivan T. SuwaLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lowry, in the county of Pope and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Stone-Loading Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in stone loading apparatus.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a portable derrick, the main derrick portion of which is composed of two tapered poles, the butt ends of which are the over-balancing means and so constructed as to support the Winding drum and its operating mechanism while a portable brace is connected to and supports the upper free end of the derrick in such a position as to permit of the passage below such ends of a vehicle to receive the elevated stone.
A further object of the present invention is the simplification of a portable stone load ing apparatus, wherein the derrick is properly supported with the lower counter-balancing end provided with the draft animal attaching portion.
l/Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangements of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings is illustrated a perspective of the complete apparatus in operable position.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a longitudinal bar which constitutes a reach between the respective axles 2 which support a single wheel as at 3 so as to permit of the easy transporting of the derrick from place to place. Connected to and supported by the reach bar 1 are the two converging braces 1 held apart intermediate of their ends by means of the cross braces 4.
The upper ends of the braces 4 are con nected to the two tapering beams 5, which constitute the main members of the derrick, a cross bar 7 being connected between the beams 5 at the upper ends of the braces 4.- to properly space the beams 5 and also the upper ends of the braces 1. The beams 5 constitute a flat, inclined frame.
Between the lower butt ends of the beams 5, said butt ends being the counter-balancing end of the derrick, is connected at cross bar (3, while connected to the elevated ends of the beams 53 is a sheaVe-supporting cross bar 8. The cross braces 9 are connected to the respective beams 5, the forward ends of the same being connected thereto adjacent the connection of the cross bar 7 to such beams, thus bracing the derrick against lateral strain.
The bar 1, the braces 4.- and the cross bar 7 constitute a flat, upright frame upon the end of which the ground wheels 3 are mounted.
In order to further brace the connection of the braces 4 to the beams 5 and to also strengthen the upper ends of the beams 5 beyond the braces 4: are the inclined braces 10 l0 and 101(), the lower ends of said braces being connected to the braces 41: adjacent to the connection of the cross bar 1 thereto.
The axle 11 or wheel carrying tree is connected by means of a king bolt 12 to the cross bar 6 and carries the wheels 13, said axle 11 having also connected thereto a tongue 1 1, whereby the complete loading apparatus may be moved from place to place and the same being supported respectively upon the wheels 3 and 13, for ready removal.
A winding drum 15 is journaled between the beams 5 near the lower or butt ends and has mounted upon the outer end of its shaft a large gear 16 which is in mesh at all times with the small gear 17, said gear 17 being keyed upon the crank shaft .18 which is journaled within the beams and parallel to the winding drum 15. The two cranks 1S) and 19' are mounted upon the respective outer ends of the crank shaft 18 so that two persons may operate the shaft to wind or unwind the drum 15.
Connected to the bar 8 and depending therefrom is a pulley sheave 20 which is preferably provided with three pulleys while a pulley sheave 21 having two pulleys has connected thereto one end of the cable 22, said cable being threaded through the respective sheaves 20 and 21 and connected to the drum Supported from the lower sheave 21 are the stone engaging tongs 23 which are composed of three co-acting members around which is placed a chain 24, said chain 2% being so disposed as to slide upon the members to retain the lower free ends in stone embracing position during theelevating and lowering of a stone.
It will be noted that the tongs 23am so disposed that a wagon for the receptioniof the stone may pass below the outer free end of the derrick and along side of the wheeled brace 4: thus permitting a great latitude for the pulling of a sunken stone from the earth and theelevation thereof upon the wagon.
In constructing the present derrick, the beams 5 are so positioned with relation to the portable brace 4 that the outer end of the derrick is approximately one fourththe length of the remaining portion ofthe derrick and further as the beams 5 are tapered the butt ends are the lower ends and thus form the proper counter-balancing means to ofi'set the lifting of the load without the butt ends being elevated.
What is claimed is:
A stone loadingdevice comprising a'fiat,
upright frame; a single pair of ground wheels mounted on the lower end ofthe upcent the ground; a cross piece connected with the lower ends of the beams and independent of the upright frame; a wheel carrying tree pivoted to the cross piece; braces connected with the beams and the upright frame, adjacent the juncture between the frames, whereby an unobstructed space is formed below thelnclmed frame and braces; a shaft ournaled 1n the beams ad acent'the lower ends of the beams; and a flexible element connected with the shaft and supported anti-frictionally at the upper ends of the beams. y
