Description
W. J. JONES.
CURTAIN AND SHADE SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 14, 1913.
Patented Sept. 9, 1913.
WILLIAM J. JONES, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
CURTAIN AND SHADE surreal.
Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented Sept. a, rare Application filed February 14, 1913, Serial No. 748,484.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. JONES, citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of I-Iennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain and Shade Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. 5
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in curtain and shade supports and more particularly to a combined shade and curtain pole support, theobject of the.
invention being to provide a device of this character which is constructed in two sections, one of said sections being adapted to be rigidly secured to the window casing and the other of said sections being removably mounted thereon. Another object of the invention is to provide a curtain and shade pole support which will possess advantages in points of efiiciency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation."
iVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the'accompanying drawings, in whicha Figure lis a side elevation of a supporting bracket constructed in accordance with my invention; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the cylindrical body member, one end of which is provided with a funnel shaped enlarged portion 2 and formed integral with the outer end of the enlarged portion 2 is a screw 3 which is adapted to be threaded into the window casing or other object upon which the de 7 vice is to be applied to rigidly support the body in a substantially horizontal position. Slidably mounted upon the body 1 is a tubular casing 4 upon the outer end of which is formed the pole supporting member 5 which is of substantially U-shaped form. Thecasing 4 is provided upon one side thereof with a suitable opening 6 which communicates by means of a slot 7 with a recess 8 formed in the lower end of the pole support 5, the recess 8 being offset with respect to the slot 7. Thus, when the casing 4: is mounted upon the body 1, after said body has been rigidly secured to the casing, a pin 9 is inserted down through the opening 6 into an opening 10 formed in the outer end of the body 1. The casing 4 is then moved upon the body 1,'the pin 9 mov ing within the slot '7 until the same reaches the recesses 8, a slight turn of the casing upon the body moving thepin 9 into the recess whereby any turning movement of the casing upon the body will be prevented.
The casing 4 is provided at its inner end with a funnel shaped mouth 11 formed coincident with the enlarged portion 2 so that the same will fit snugly thereon when the casing 4- is arranged in its operative position. Formed integral with the upper side of the casing i are the upwardly projecting ears 12 provided with suitable openings 18 and recesses 14; for the reception of the trunnions of the shade rollers whereby the shades will be suitably supported in position.
From the fore oing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and durable combined curtain and shade roller support which can be quickly and easily placed in position upon the window casing or readily removed therefrom. It will also be ap parent that the device is extremely simple in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a cylindrical body having an enlarged portion at one end, a screw formed integral with said enlarged portion,
a casing mounted upon the body and having.
one end engaging said enlarged portion, means for preventing rotary movement of the casing, and means carried by the casing for supporting the ends of a curtain pole and shade roller.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a cylindrical body having a cone shaped enlarged portion at one end, ascrew formed integral with said enlarged portion, a casing mounted upon the body and having a cone shaped mouth 00- incident With the enlarged'portion, means carried by the bodv for preventing rotary movement of the casing, and means carried by the casing for supporting arcurtain pole and shade roller. 7
3. A device of the class described including a cylindrical body having a transverse opening at one end, a cone shaped enlarged portion at theother end, a casing mounted upon the body and having one end engaging the enlarged portion, said casing having a slot in the other end, a supporting member forlned'on the outer end of the casing: and having an opening ooni'municating With said slot, and a pin arranged Within theslot in the casing and the opening in the body and adapted to be disposed in the opening in the supporting memberto prevent rotary movement of the casing.
In testimony whereof I hereunto EtffiX my signature in'the presence of two Witnesses. 1
