DRIVING CONNECTION FOR PICKER -STICKS OF WEAVING-LOOIVIS.
T 0 all whom it may concern: I Be it known that I, VICTOR RIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Hillsboro and State of New Hampshire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Driving Connections for Picker-Sticks of l Veaving Looms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to weaving looms, and its object is to provide a connection between the picker stick of such a loom and its driving means, which will protect the picker stick against undue wear and to provide a device of simple construction which will effectively perform the function noted.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:-Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating fragmentarily a picker stick and the connection between the same and the driving member which forms the essence of this invention, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the strap member and means for connecting the same to the picker stick, and Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view illustrating the lug hereinafter referred to.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the picker stick and 2 the member for driving the same and limiting its movement. This member is connected to the picker stick by means of a U-shaped metal strap 3 which surrounds the stick and which is of such size as to provide an enlarged or elongated slot 4 in which the picker stick moves. Around the picker stick is secured a U- shaped metal strap 5 which at each end is provided with threaded shanks 6. The
shanks 6 extend through openings in a clamping bar or plate 7 and beyond said plate receive nuts 8, which securely clamp the strap member to the picker stick. A set screw 9 is screwed into the strap member 5 and its head 14 is spaced away from the same to provide a shank portion 12. A washer 13 engagesthe shank of the screw and fits tightly against the strap 5. One end 11 of a flexible strap 10, preferably of leather, is tightly clamped between the Specification of Letters Patent.

picker stick and the strap member 5 and the opposite end ofsaid strap 10 is provided with an elongated slot 15 by means of which one end of the strap 10 is adapted to detachably engage the shank 12 of the screw 9.
The metal strap 3 is supported by the leather strap 10 and loosely rests therein. Upon the actuation of the member 2 the strap 3 actuates or swings the picker stick 1 by means of its connection with the flexible strap 10 and the strap is of such length that during such movement the member 2 proper will not forcibly strike against the picker stick 1. By this means, practically all wear is taken up by the strap 10 and the picker stick is relieved from wear.
The metal strap 5 and associated parts permit attachment of the device to picker sticks of various sizes and at any desired location thereon and the elongated slot connection with the screw 9 permits one end of the strap 10 to be disengaged from the lug to facilitate engagement or disengagement with the strap '3 to connect or disconnect the device embodying my invention to and from the picker stick.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In combination with a picker stick, a clamp member fastened thereto having a clamp portion, an actuating member, a flexible loop member supporting said actuating member, said flexible member clamped at one side of said portion between same and said stick, the other side of the flexible member provided with a slot, a fastening member projecting from said clamping portion having a head thereon, said flexible member being detachably fastened to the fastening member through the engagement of said strap at the slot with said fastening member on the head thereof.
2. In combination with a picker stick, a clamping member having side arms and a connecting arm, said side arms terminating in screw-threaded shanks, a clamp bar engaging said shanks, nuts on said shanks be yond said bar, an actuating member, a flexible loop member supporting said actuating member, said flexible member clamped at one side by and between said connecting arm and said stick, the other side of said flexible member provided with a slot, a setscrew fastened to and projecting from said 0011- through the engagement of said strap at the slot With said fastening member beyond the head thereof.
VICTOR RIEL.
necting arm having a head thereon, said \Vitnesses: flexible member being detachably fastened PHILLI BONNEOM, to one side of the fastening member D. W. PERKINs.
