Description

July 10, 1945. H. L. WILLIAMS I LUG STRAP HOLDER FOR PICKER STICKS Filed May 19, 1944 Patented July 10. 1945 r UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,380,352
LUG STRAP HOLDER FOR PICKER STICKS Harrison L. Williams, Huntsville, Ala. Application May 19, 1944, Serial No. 536,373 I 1 Claim. (01.
This invention relates to looms and more particularly to an improved picker stick lug strap An object of this invention is to provide an improved wedge-shaped lug strap holder 'hav-' ing a head at its upper end which is clamped to one side of the picker stick and is engaged by the operating lug strap which actuates the picker stick.
Another object of this invention is to provide a wooden lug strap holder which is formed at its inner side with serrations engageable with one edge of the picker stick, the serrations gripping with the picker stick so that the lug strap holder will not move lengthwise of the picker stick.
A further object of thisinvention is to provide a. lug strap holder of this kind which can be easily and cheaply constructed and will provide a long wearing lug strap holder. 1
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more 'full described hereinafter, and will be more particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto.
In the drawing wherein like symbols refer to like or corresponding parts throughoutthe views,
Figure 1 is a. detailed side elevation of a lug strap holder constructed according to an embodiment of this invention, mounted on a picker stick, the picker stick lug being broken away.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the lugholder or holder, and
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the lug strap, holder.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral in designates generally a. rockable picker stick which forms part of a conventional loom construction, and is adapted to be rocked by means of a lug strap ll connected to the picker stick at. a point upwardly from the fulcrum or lower end thereof.
I The picker stick ID has positioned on the outer side or edge thereof, a wedge-shaped lugstrap holder 12, about which the lug strap ll engages."v
The lug strap holder I2 is clamped to the picker stick I0 by means of a U-shaped clamp l3 which comes worn by the lug strap H.
also engages over a pressure plate l4, positioned on the outer edge of the lug strap holder l2. The lug strap holder l2 includes, an elongated body having a flat side 15 engageable against the adjacent edge of the stick I 0, and the side l5'is formed at a point extending upwardly from the' lower end thereof with a plurality of serrations Isa-I54) IS. The serrations l6 extend from the flat side l5's0 that when the clamp I3 is tightened, the
.serrations l6 will bite into the adjacent edge of p The lug strap holder, l2 also inpoint below the upper end of the lug strap holder l2. An outwardly projecting head I8 is formed above the upper endof the outer side l1 so that the upper edge of the lug strap II will be heldagainst'upward movement during the rocking of the picker stick. The upper edge of the head [8 is inclined downwardly and outwardly as indicated at 19.
In the use of this device, the lug strap holder I2 is clamped to the outer edge of the picker stick ID by means of the U-shaped clamp I3 which engages over the pressure plate I4. The upper end 20 of the plate l4 comprises'a stop for the lug strap I I to limit the downward movement of the lugstrap 0n the lug strap holder l2, whereas the head} l8 constitutes an upper stop for limiting the upward movement of the lugstrap on the lug strap holder. By providing a lug strap holder" with the projecting serrations I6, the tightening of the clamp l3 will project the serrations l6 into the adjacent face of the stick in so that the lug stopholder 12 will thereby be held firmly against lengthwise or vertical movement with respect tothe picker stick. This lug strap holder can be manufactured at small cost so that it canbe readily replaced when it be- I-Iowever, due to the improved construction of the lug strap holder it will last for a longer period of time than lug strap holders heretofore in use, and will not become loosened on the picker stick as readily as will lug strap holders which do'not embody the teeth or serrations Hi.
What is claimed is:
A picker stick lug strap holder comprising an elongated member of substantially wedge shape. and adapted to engage against one side of thepicker stick, said member having a head at the large end thereof, and serrations formed on and offset from the edge'of said member confronting said picker stick, said serrations being positioned adjacent the small end of said member and terminating at a point adjacent the lower edge. of the area engaged by said strap.
