Description
N. PEIERS. PHDTOMTMGRAPHER WASHINGTON o C JEREMIAHl W. WALTON,fOF-` DEGATUR, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 107,l33,`dated September 6, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN y WAGON-JACKE.
` l 00h-. The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the `same To al! whom Iit 'may concern.-
Be it known that l, JEREMIAH W. WALTON, of Decatur, in the county of Van Buren and Stat-e of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improve- Inet in Wagon-Jacks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being hall to the accompanying drawing lnakinga part ot' this specilicatioxnin which- 'lhe ligure is a side elevation.
This invention consists in a derive for varying the height of the jack-lever without lowering it on the standard, combined with astirrnp and 'serrated standard, used for sustaining the jack-lever in position when holding a part of a wagon elevated.
ln the drawing- A is the hase;
B, the standard, serrated in front, ns .shown at b;
C is the lever, pivoted to the top of the standard; and
E is a metal stirrup inclosing the standard, and' jointed, at one end, to the under side ot' the lever.
lhe olice of the stirl'np is to catch, at its free end, in some one of the serrations l), when the short arm of the lever C is under an axle or other weight, and thus ret-aiu vthe same alt the required height.
The upper quarter, more or less, of the short arm of lthe lever G is 'made separate from the rest, and hinged t0 it, as shown at o.
The separate block Dis allowed to remain in its seat, when the full height of' the lever is required, as in lifting the reuraxles.ofwagons, but when it would be more convenient to reduce the height ot' the lever, as in lifting the-forward axles, ihislnay readily be doue-hy'simply turning the block I) bae'k. In this way the trouble ot' adjusting the lever on the standard is avoided.
Having thus described my invention,
That I claim as new, and desire to Secure by Letters Patent, is-
lhe block l), hinged at e, in combination with the rabheted lever C, the latter being slotted t-o receive the upper end oi' the serrated standard B, and having the stirrup E pivoted toits longer arm, all as shown autldescribed.
J EREMIAH' W. WALTON.
