IMPROVEMENT IN FENCE.
The Schedule referred lto in these Letters Patent and making part of the same lTo all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. OWENS, ot' Granville, Licking county, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fences, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip-y tion, reference being made to the accompanying d rawing forming a part ot' this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view;
Figure 2 is a sectional view, showing the manner in which one oft-bc sections of the'fence is turned at the corner of the same;` and Figure 3, a cross-section of tig. 1.
The nature of my invention relates to the manner of securing thcsections of `the fence together, and consists in the combination and arrangtmient of parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
General Desmfijt'ion.
A are tbc sections of the fence, made ot' boards or rails a, and fastened together by the upright pieces l), three being a suicient number fr each section, one at each end, and the other near the center.
These sections A are connected to .cach other by the upright pieces B B, first by passing the upright pieces bat the end of the lsections by eachother, far enough to allow the cross-piece'c, which connects the top ot' the two upright pieces B B together, to pass between them.
The bottom boards ol' rails of the sect-ions A rest von the cross-piece D, which connects the upright pieces B B at their lower ends.

`Another feature of my invention 4is the manner in which I arrange the section A', when the same is vturned at right angles with the section A, to form the y corner ot' the fence.
This is accomplished by having the uprights B far enough apart to allow the upright b of the section A to turn in the. space between the upright B and the end of the section A, and, when the section A is turned at right angles, it rests-on the cross-piece D.
The section A also answers for a gate, as it can be turned at right angles with the section A, as above described. This is considered an important feat-nre ot' my invention, as no hinges are needed, and the only fast-cuing'required is a deviceat the opposite end of the section A1, from which it. tui-us to fasten in the next section of the fence when closed.

What I desire to secure by Letters Patent is vIhc sections A, connected together by tbe upright pieces B B, cross-pieces D C, and wedge E, all coustructed and arranged as herein described, for the purpose specified..
