Description

A. F. PIEPER.
EXTENSIBLE BRACKET.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. 6, 1911.

ALPHONSE F. PIEPER, OF ROCHESTER, 'NEW YORK.
EXTENSIBLE BRACKET.
Application filed December 6, 1911.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALrHoNsn F. PIEPER, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful In'iprovements in Extensible Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the refer ence-nun'lerals marked thereon.
The present invention relates to extensible brackets, and particularly to that type of bracket employed for supporting a dental motor, cabinet, or other object, embodying, generally, two or more sections foldable with relation to each other and pivotally mounted upon a wall or other suitable support, the sections including arms arranged in parallel relation, and serving to maintain the object at the outer end of the bracket poised at any point to which the bracket may be adjusted, and it has for its object the provision of a novel arrangement of parts, characterized by simplicity of construction and efficiency of operation, for accomplishing the purposes set forth.
To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of an extensible bracket, em bodying a preferred form of my invention; Fig. 2 is a similar view, the sections of the brackets being folded; Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view in side elevation of the connections between the bracket sections; Fig. 4 is a view in edge elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line wa; of Fig. 3, and Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line -yg of Fig. 3.
Similar reference numerals throughout the several figures indicate the same parts.
The invention is illustrated in the present embodiment as applied to an extensible bracket composed of an inner and an outer section, the inner section comprising arms 1 and 2 and the outer section preferably com prising arms 3 and 4:, the arms of the respective sections being arranged in parallelism, as shown. The arms 1 and 2 of the inner section are pivotally mounted on the post 5 journaled in a suitable support 6, the

latter being attached to a wall or other supportlng means. The arms of the outer section are pivotally connected to a standard 7 on which is mounted a cabinet 8, or other object to be supported. The arms of the inner and outer sections are pivotally connected, as indicated at 9 and 10, said connections being joined by a vertically disposed member, comprising preferably a link 11 on which is mounted a head 12 for a purpose presently to be made clear. The upper arms 2 and 4 of the inner and outer sections are provided with slotted extensions 13 which extend downwardly beyond the connection 9 and co operate with the slots or openings 14l provided in the lower arms 1 and 3 of the sections. Extending through the cooperating slotted portions in the lower arms and in the extensions of the upper arms are sliding connections, preferably in the form of pins 15 which carry the heads 16, the latter having openings to receive the guide rod 18 which is horizontally disposed on the vertically disposed member 11, being held therein by the aforementioned head 12. Suitable en largements 19 are formed on the ends of the guide rods 18 to limit the outward movement of the sliding connections. The disposition of the guide 18 with relation to the sliding connections serves to effect an equal movement of the inner and outer sections as the bracket is folded or extended, causing the arms of the sections to maintain their parallel. relation at all positions to which the bracket may be adjusted, the cabinet or other object at the outer end. of the bracket being poised either when the bracket is extended to its outermost position, folded to its innermost position, or at any point therebetween.
Certain modifications are possible with the construction herein described, as for in stance, the outer section may consist of a sin gle arm, the upper or lower arm being omitted, in which case the object would preferably be suspended from the outer end of the arm, and it is to be understood that any such changes or departures are within the scope of my invention, and comprehended by the claims hereinafter.
I claim as my invention:
1. In an extensible bracket, the combination with an inner section including a pair of pivotally mounted arms having parallel movement, of an outer section pivotally connected to the inner section and adapted to support an. object at its outer end, a vertically disposed member joining the arms of the sections, a sliding connection between an upper arm of one section and a lower arm of another section and means for controlling the movement of said connection in a horizontal direction.
2. In an extensible bracket, the combination with an inner section including a pair of pivotally mounted arms having parallel movement, of an outer section pivotally connected to the inner section and adapted to support an object at its end, a vertically disposed member joining the arms of the sections, a sliding connection between an upper arm of one section and a lower arm of the other section, and means carried by said vertically disposed member for controlling the movement of said connection in a horizontal direction.
3. In an extensible bracket, the combination with an inner section including a pair of pivotally mounted arms having parallel movement, of an outer section pivot-ally connected to the inner section and adapted to support an object at its outer end, a Vertically disposed member joining the arms of the sections, a sliding connection between an upper arm of one section and the lower arm of the other, and a guide carried by said vertically disposed member for controlling the movement of said sliding connection in a horizontal direction.
4. In an extensible bracket, the combination with an inner section including a pair of pivotally mounted arms having parallel movement, of an outer section pivotally connected to the inner section and adapted to support an object at its outer end, a vertically disposed member joining the arms of the sections, a sliding connection between an arm of the inner section and an arm of the outer section, and a guide rod disposed horizontally on said member, the sliding connection being movable on said guide rod.
5. In an extensible bracket, the combina tion with an inner section including a pair of pivotally mounted arms having parallel movement, of an outer section embodying a pair of parallelly arranged arms pivotally connected to the arms of the inner section and adapted to support an object at their outer end, a vertically disposed member joining the arms of the sections, slotted eX- tensions on the upper arms of the sections extending downwardly to points opposite the lower arms.said lower arms being slotted to receive sliding connections cooperating with the slotted extensions on the upper arms, guiding members carried by the connections, and a horizontally disposed guide rod mounted on said vertically disposed member to receive the guiding members.
6. In an extensible bracket, the combination with an inner section including a pair of pivotally mounted arms having parallel movement, of an outer section embodying a pair of parallel arms pivotally connected to the arms of the inner section and adapted to support an object at their outer ends, a vertically disposed member joining the arms of the inner and outer sections, slotted extensions on corresponding arms of each section, the remaining arms being slotted to receive sliding connections cooperating with said slotted extensions and a. horizontally arranged guide mounted on said vertically disposed member and adapted to effect horizontal movement of the sliding connections.
