GARMENT HANGER AND STRETCHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 12,1913.
Application led August 21, 1912. vSerial No. 716,247.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, GABRIEL H. W. Doosn, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county ot San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment Hangers and Stretchers, of Which the following is a specification.
rIhis invention relates to garment hangers and crease'tormers, and has for an object to providemeans designed particularly for the purpose of stretching trousers and for maintainingthe desired crease in the leg ot s the trousers.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined hanger and crease former that will include an extensible structure which can be readily adjusted to tit trousers oi" diil'erent sizes.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the 'combined hanger and crease former can be folded into a very compact package for storage or for shipment. y
In the drawing, forming a portion of this speciiication and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views: Figure l is a side view showing my improved hanger and crease former operat-ively arranged in a trousers leg. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hanger. Fig. 3 is a section on line Eve-3 of Fig. 1.
The hanger comprises tubular members 1 and 2 which are identically constructed, one of the members beingdesigned for the purpose of forming the front crease in the trousers leg and the other being adapted to form the` back crease in the leg. Each niember is substantially ot elliptical configuration in cross section so that each presents a relatively7 narrow crease-forming surface-El. The members are connected with each other by the laterally adjustable members Ji and 5. These members are slidably connected with each other and the member l has mounted thereon a clamp 6 to engage the member 5 as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 to tl creby hold the member 1 properly positioned in the trousers led. The members 4 so and #i are provided with ongitudinal branch portions 7 which are itted slidably in the members 1 and 2. The longitudinal branch portions T are also ot elliptical configuration vin transverse sectionto form relatively narrow crease-forming surfaces 8.
With a view of providing means whereby the garment can'be hung upon a suitable support after the crease-former has been connected therewith as described, I provide a support 9. This support is constructed from a single length of spring wire and `it has an intermediate coiled portion 10, the relatively movable arms 1.1, and the hooks 12. The. hooks 12 are adapted to be extended through the eyes 13 in the outer ends of the tubular members 1 and 2. The arms 11 have shoulders 14 thereon which are designed to engage against the eyes 13 so that under the tension ot the spring support the tubular members 1 and 2 will be moved slightly late ally on the branch portions 7 of the crease-former. This causes the tubular portions 1 and 2 and the portions 7 to be sprung relatively whereby to bind against each other to the extent that they will be effectually held in their desired longitudinally adjusted positions.
I claim z- 1. In a garment hanger and stretcher, laterally adjustable. members, means for holding said members in adjusted positions, tubular members slidably receiving the first members, and a support connecting the second members together and including relatively springy portions lying in mutual 'contact with the upper terminals ot said scond members and adapted to move said second members laterally against the tirst members so as to effect a binding action between the first and second members and thereby hold the second members against sliding adjustnient upon the first members.
2. ln a garment hanger and stretcher, the combination with laterally adjustable mombers having longitudinally extending branch portions disposed in downwardly diverging relation, tubular members telescoping said branches, and a spring connecting the upper` terminals of said tubular members and including portions adapted for lateral separa-
