To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that we, Gimmes W. Kai,- LnNnAiion: and Airmen O. Jonnson, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Duquesue, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanyin drawing.

This invention relates to show cases, and more particularly to novel adjustable shelf brackets that permit of shelves being properly positioned in a show case for safely holding and displaying various kinds of merchandise.

Another object of our invention is to provide a coml'iination display cabinet, a portion of which can be used as an ordinary counter and another portion for display purposes upon a counter, or both portions can be used in a manner that permits of easy access being had to either.

A further object of this invention is to provide a display case with adjustable shelves that are easy to install, inexpensive to immufacture and highly eflicient for the purposes for which they are intended.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a show case in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the show case, Fig. l is an enlarged vertical sectional view of a single shelf post, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a double shelf post.

A show case in accordance with this invention comprises a rectangular cabinet 1 having transparent hinged front doors 2, transparent end walls 3 and a transparent hinged top door 4t.

Detachably mounted upon the top of the cabinet is an auxiliary cabinet 5 that has an inclined front wall composed of hinged transparent doors 6 and hinged transparent doors 7 that are provided with side extensions 8. nary and well known type and said extensions are held in a retracted position by guides 10 forming partof the doors 7. When the extensions are in a retracted position the doors 7 can be swung open to rest, upon pins 11 slidably mounted in the base of the auxiliary cabinet The top of the cabinet is closed by hinged transparent doors 1? and this cabinet can be used independently of the main cabinet 1. For instance the main cabinet can be used as a counter while the auxiliary cabinet can be located upon another counter or suitable support.

Arranged within the main and auxiliary cabinets are shelf posts 13 and when the cabinets are of suitable length it is preferable to use a plurality of the posts, some of which are located within the rear corners of the cabinets and others intermediate the corner posts at the rear walls of the cabinets. Those posts used in the corners of the cabinets are hereinafter termed single rack posts for the reason, that each post has a longitudinal rack 1-1- formed by providing the rack with notches. The intermediateposts are hereinafter termed double rack posts for the reason that each post has a double rack as best shown in Fig. 5. The posts have the upper and lower ends thereof provided with angle pieces 15 whereby they can be secured in position by resorting to screws or other fastening means.

Considering the double rack post shown in Figs. 3 and 5, this post embraced by a flat irregular link 16 and loosely connected to said link are brackets 17 having augularly disposed braces or 18 that engage in the racks of the post and coo gierate with the link 16 in supporting the brackets at substantially right angles to the post. Each bracket is preferably made of a strip of malleable metal that is bent upon itself to form a case 19 for the link 16, and the end of the malleable strip is secured to the leg 18 to form a brace 20 between the bracket 17 and said leg.

The double rack post 13 is semioctagon in cross section, that is having faces disposed at different angles, and it is in some of these faces that the notches 1 1 are formed whereby the brackets 17 will be disposed at different angles.

The single rack posts are practically the same as the double rack posts and said posts are disposed whereby the brackets of the single rack posts will converge toward the diverging brackets of the double rack posts. In this manner the brackets 17 are in position for safely supporting a transparent shelf 21.

From the foregoing it will be observed that we have devised novel adjustable shelf brackets that can be used in connection with various kinds of show cases, display cabi nets, refrigerators or other inclosures, and for this reason we do not care to confine our invention to the particular type of show case disclosed.

Such changes as are permissible by the appended claims can be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

lVha-t we claim is 1. A shelf bracket comprising a post provided with a rack, a link shiftably mounted upon said post, an angle-shaped member projecting from each end of the post and having one leg flush with the rear leg of the post and its other leg extending rearwardly with respect to the post and provided with an opening for the passage of a securing device for the post, a V-shaped bracket having one of its legs connected to said links and the other of its legs extending into a tooth of the rack, a leg connected to said link extended forwardly and bent to provide a brace interposed between both of the legs of the bracket.

2. A shelf bracket comprising a post provided with a rack, securing members for the post projecting from each end thereof, a link adjustably mounted upon said post, and a V-shaped bracket having one of its legs extended to provide a brace interposed between both of the legs of said bracket, that leg of said bracket which is extended is con nected to said leg and the other leg of said bracket adapted to engage a tooth of the rack.
