, citizen of the United States, residing at La Jolla, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash and DoorClamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to sash or door clamps, and has for its object the production of an efficient means whereby a sash or door may be held in such a position as to allow the hinges, looks or other means to be easily placed thereon.
Another obj ect of this invention is the produetion of an eilicient sash or door clamp which is formed from a plurality of blank members and so constructed as to hold the door or sash in an operable position.
TVith these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clamp showing a door in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the device. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the clamp. Fig. 1 is a top plan view of one portion of the clamp showing it formed from a blank. Fig. 5 is a central vertical section of a portion of the clamp. Fig. 6 is a top plan View of the blank from which the sliding j aw is formed. Fig. 7 is a top plan view of the blank from which the stationary jaw is formed. Fig. 8 is a sectional view of a portion of the clamp showing a modified form of a spur member which may be used in combination therewith.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals itwill be seen that the device consists of the anchoring member 1 which lhas an elongated body portion terminating in the vertical extending arm 2 which carries the anchoring prong 8 for engaging the door or sash. In order to hold the anchoring member from slipping, the body portion 1 is provided with the anchoring spur 1 which engages the floor.
Centrally located upon the body portion 1 there is pivotally mounted the connector member 5 by means of the pivot member 6. When in use this connector member 5 is adapted to extend transversely of the body portion 1 and carries at its outer ends theanch-oring spurs 7 for holding the same in this position. This connector member 5 carries adjacent its central portion a stationary jaw which terminates in a laterally extending foot 9 through which the rivets 10 pass for engaging the connector member 5 whereby this stationary jaw isfixedly securedto the connector member. The connector member 5 also carries oppositely the stationary jaw 8 and at a distance from the central portion of the connector member, sliding jaw 11 which is provided with the laterally extending portion 12 in which the longitudinally extending slot 13 is formed. The body portion of the connector member 5 is provided with an Lip-standing lug 14: which travels within the slot 13. This lug 14 is provided with a threaded aperture 15 in which the threaded screw member 16 is adapted to fit. Mounted upon this threaded screw member is a washer 17. By referrin to Fig. 1, it will be seen that the washer 1( fits upon the upper portion of the laterally extending portion 12 of the sliding jaw 11. By use of this screw member 16 the jaw 11 may be held in a fixed position by screwing the threaded portion of the screw 16 into the aperture 15 whereby the washer 17 will clamp upon the laterally extending portion 12.
In operation the anchoring member 1 is placed upon the floor at which time the connector member 5 is swung transversely thereof. The sliding aw 11 is then forced toward one end of the connector member 5 at which time the door orsash is placed so as to ex tend longitudinally of the body portion of the anchoring member 1. The sliding jaw 11 is then forced up so as to lie upon the side of the sash or door whereby the stationary jaw will 8 will engage the opposite side of the sashor door. The sliding jawis then clamped in position by means of the threaded screw 16 and the lug 14 at which time the hinge lock or other means may be fastened upon the sash or door.
By referring to Fig. 41 it will be seen that a slightly modified form is shown which consists of the anchoring member 18 from which extend the laterally extending fingers 19. The anchoring member 18 is provided with a scored portion 20 whereby the extended portion 21 may be bent at right angles to the body of the anchoring member 18. This extended portion is provided with a punched spur 22 which extends inwardly while the body portion of the anchoring member 18 is provided with a punched spur which normally extends downwardly. The end portions of the fingers 19 are provided with the downwardlly extending punchedspurs 24 which are adapted to engage the floor. One of the fingers 19 is provided with a plurality of apertures 25 while the other finger 19 is provided with the aperture 26. The finger 19 which is provided with the plurality of apertures 25 is adapted to carry the stationary jaw 8 at which time the apertures 25 which are formed in the finger 19 register with the apertures formed in the laterally extending foot 9 of the stationary aw 8 at which time the securing means 10 is passed therethrough for holding the jaw in a fixed position. The other finger 19 is adapted to carry the sliding jaw 11 while the aperture 26 is adapted to receive the threaded screw 16, and since this threaded screw 16 engages the sliding jaw 11 the sliding jaw 11 may be easily adjusted when so desired. It will be seen that in this device as formed from a blank the spurs are adapted to engage the floor as well as the door for preventing the device from slip; ping out of engagement with the same.
It will, of course, be obvious that since the connector member 5 is pivotally secured to the anchoring member 1, the connector member may be swung so as to extend longitudinally of the body portion of the anchoring member 1 whereby the same may be easily carried or placed in a comparatively small place when so desired.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is:
1. A device of the class described oom prising an anchoring member constituting an elongated body terminating in an upwardly extending portion, a connector member pivotally secured to said anchoring member so as to extend transversely thereof, spur means carried by said anchoring member and said connector member for engaging the floor, and spur means carried by said extending portion for engaging a sash or door, a stationary jaw carried by one por tion of said connector member, said stationary jaw provided. with a laterally extending foot, means passing through said foot for fixedly securing said jaw to said connector member, a sliding aw carried by said connector member provided with a laterally extending portion, said laterally extending portion provided with a longitudinally extending slot, said connector member pro-- vided with an Lip-standing lug provided with a central threaded aperture, said lug fitting within said slot, a threaded screw member carried by said lug, a collar carried by said threaded screw member, said collar member adapted to bear upon the body portion of said laterally extending portion of said sliding jaw whereby said jaw may be adjustably held upon said connector member.
2. A device of the class described comprising an anchoring member provided with an extended portion extending upwardly and at a right angle to said anchoring mem ber, an inwardly extending lug struck from the upper part of said extended portion, a downwardly extending lug struck from the body portion of said anchoring member and adapted to engage the floor, a plurality of finger members extending from said body of said anchoring member, the outer portion of said fingers provided with a plurality of downwardly extending spurs, means struck from said fingers and adapted to engage the floor, a stationary jaw carried by one of said fingers and a sliding aw carried by another of said fingers, said sliding jaw provided with a longitudinally extending slot, a threaded screw passing through said slot and engaging one of said fingers and a collar carried by said threaded screw for en gaging said sliding jaw whereby said jaw may be held in an adjustable position upon one of said fingers.
