In: Vnsslain-Belushi a citizen of the United States of America, residing at (35 Southgate street, lVorcester, in the county of l'Vorcester and State of .hfassaclmsetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guide- Eyes for Loom-Shuttles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to weaving shuttles and iiarticularly to guide eyes for shuttle threaders.
An object of this invention is to provide a guide eye of the character noted which will be held in the holder by friction, thus obviating the provision of. screw threads or other fastening devices for retaining the same in place.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a channel member comprising a substantially cylindrical portion, tapered toward one end and provided with an apertured flange to receive thread adapted to extend through the cylindrical member, the said flange being n'eiferably .formed integral with the cylindrical member and constituting a unitary structure capable of being applied to and removed from the shuttle and being capable also of retaining its place in the shuttle by frictional contact of the member and the shuttle.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 illustrates a perspective View of a fragment of a shuttle, the same being broken away showing a threader embodying the invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 illustrates a transverse sectional view of the shuttle and threader; Fig. 3 illustrates a perspective view of the threader; Fig. 41- illustrates a longitudinal sectional view of the said threader, the same being taken on the line BB of Fig. 5; and Fig. 5 illustrates a sectional View on a line correspond ing with the line A-A of Fig. l.
In these drawings 6 denotes the shuttle which may be of any appropriate construc- I tion having the shuffle lhreadcr applied thereto, the said shuttle fhrwader comprising a substantially e \'lindri(.:al body 7 ta pered to form a nose 8 at one end and having an integral flange S) preierably formed by doubling the metal on ilseli. as shown at 10. In forming the body 7, the same is slit longitudinally :lrom one end to a point intermediate the other end thereof as shown at 112 which is :lor the purpose o'f producing a springing action oi the said body in order that it may bind in the bore 13 of? the shuttle which is designed to receive it, it being understood that the inventor relies on iriclional contact of the said cylindrical member with the wall oi the bore 1? tor eil'ecting an anchorage or retention of the shuttle lhreader within the shuffle.
In Fig. 2, there is illustrated a spirally wound wire or other member Ll: of? such flexibility as to permit its insertion in the shuttle lhreader and through the aperture or eye ill oi. the flange thereof? for the purpose of engaging the thread whereby the said thread may be drawn thcrethrough.
In the :liormation oi the flange 9, it will be observed that it is integral with the material of which the cylimlrical portion 7 is formed and that the said flange 9 is relatively long and that it is doubled on itself. as stated, and overlies the top portion of the member 7, and is preferably fitted into an aperture in the upper portion oil the cylindrical memher, the joint or edge oi? which is shown at 15, the said portion of the flange which is bent back to overlie the cylindrical member 7 being indicated by the numeral 16. As the flange and the cylindrical member are preferably :lormed of. resilient material, the portion 16 may serve as a friction member or element for hearing against the wall oi? the bore of the shuttle :tor the purpose of retaining the shuttle threader in place and as the construction oi? the device permits its being stamped 'from sheet metal, it will be observed that the same can be manuiactured at comparatively small cost and that it will prove durable and efficient in use.

In a shuttle lhreader, a substantially cylindrical body having a tapered nose and a flange extending from the end oi said nose rearwardly of said cylindrical body, the said cylindricalbody having a portion of its top portion removed and having the flange lying in the opening formed by the removal of said portion of the cylindrical body, the said'fianged portion having an eye formed therein communicating With the interior of the cylindrical body and a shuttle to Which the threader is applied.
'2.'A shuttle threader comprising a substantially cylindrical body and having a longitudinally disposed slit, and an opening r in'its top portion, a flange extending from one end of the cylindrical body and having a portion thereof extending over the apertured portion of the cylindrical body and lying in the said aperture, and the said flanged portion having an opening communicating with the interior of the body.
3. In a shuttle threader, a substantially cylindrical body, laterally eXpansible, and a flange extending from the said body and extending rearwardly over the said body and having an aperture in communication With the interior of the body.
