WITNESSES:
passage of air through the opening 17.v This I valve is operated by means of a rod 22 which extends to the exterior as clearly shown in` Fig. 1,. Doorsi`23'(only one being shown) are provided or the ash-pit through A which the receptacle isl removed' from or inserted into the ash-pit.; vThe receptacle is connected toa powe'rvmens 2 5.' by means .of a rod 26. A suitable coupling and uncoupling means is provided. at. '27' so that the receptacle mayv be conveyed, after nemoval `from thefurnace,
to a suitable placev of discharge, and so that" it canb be drawn into the ash-pit after it hasv been' emptied.- 28 is a chassis or other suitable conveyer for the car-body or receptacle 13, said conveyer .being mounted on suitable tracks S29.
From the above ldescription it Wil-l be obvious that-practically all dust isavo-ided in emptying the receptacle of its contents and owing to the fact that the receptacle c'onforms tothe outline of the ash-pit, the ashes'.l andclinker' are precluded from passing into the ash-pit to the `exterior of the receptacle.
Another limportant featureis the fact that the receptacle and associated mechanism are so formed that practically'all the air for" producing combustion passes through the 'receptacle 13 and becomesvhighly heated by forated receptacle in said ash-pit substant1allycoextens1ve ith said pit, means in said ash-pit for sulporting said receptacle and contactingvvith the Ibottom of the same at a plurality of points to prevent deformation thereof by the masses of chpkerfalling from the grate, and means for supplying air vto said grate .through theconq'ents of saidreceptacle, vas set forth. v

3. In a 4destructor furnace, 'in combination, a grate,'an ash-pitbe'lowsaid grate, a per foi-ated receptacle provided 'for `said 'ash-pit' conforming 4t the -Wallsf of said ashQpit, a plurality of vsupports engaging withthf tomof Said receptacle to guide the same into and out/ofy thewas'h-pit and to 'space the 'bot-4 tom of said receptaclefrom the Walls osaid pit, and an air chamberinthe bottom of said@` Aash-pit andvcommunica'tingvvith said grate and the y:aforesaid space., In testimonywhereof ture inthe presenceofitwo subscribing WitV ,nessesL Il.
