EDGAR JEROME, OF NORWALK, CONNECTICUT.
TOILET-PAPER HOLDER.
Original application filed June 15, 1909, Serial No. 502,345.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDGAR JEROME, citi- Z611 of the United States, residing at Norwalk, Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet- Paper Holders, of which the following is a :pecification.
My present invention relates particularly to suspension means for a pack of toilet paper sheets, and is a division of the subject matter disclosed in my application filed June 15, 1909, Serial Number 502,345, which has matured into Patent Number 1,046,510.
The invention consists in the features hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawingsFigure l is a front view of a toilet paper holder, and pack of paper sheets embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 perspective views of the suspension wire looking from opposite sides thereof.
In carrying out my invention I employ a ")ase plate A, of metal, having fixed thereto tandards 22 in which bears a spring arm which carries at its end a pressure device or exerting a controlling pressure upon the aper pack. This base plate A also carries an upturned flange 16 which is inclined from a horizontal plane and is open at one end, or in other words. has a free space at its end adapted to receive an inclined book 15 of a suspension wire E, which passes through the paper pack and has its front end upturned to retain the sheets of said pack in place. The inclined hook portion 15 extends laterally from the vertical portion 14, and this vertical portion connects with the horizontal portion 14 of the wire, which, as stated, is turned up at its front end at 1 1 to retain the paper sheets. In suspending the device the hook 15 is passed over the free edge of the flange 16 and is then allowed to drop down to contact with the inner wall of said flange at its lower portion to be suspended thereby, the weight of the pack naturally drawing the hook down to firmly seat itself upon the flange 16. This hook, it will be noticed from Fig. l, is out of line with the pressure or con- Specification of Letters Patent.

trolling device carried by the spring arm 3, so that any cuttings or chips of paper falling from the paper sheets when pulled from the suspension wire will not fall upon the controlling or pressure device to obstruct its proper operation. There is a special advantage to be gained by having the recess formed by the flange 16, inclined as is here represented". When the hook 15 is placed in the flange 16, it will, by reason of the force of gravity, due to the weight of the paper pack and the hook, slide down into the said groove until the loop at the end of the hook forms a bearing against the upper end of the inclined flange 16. Thus any lateral swinging movement is prevented and the pack is always held in proper alinement with a pressure device acting upon the pack itself. This pressure device consists of a frame B having rollers-mounted at its ends, the frame being pivoted at a point intermediate of its length .upon the spring arm 3, so as to rock thereon and the rollers being connected by an endless hand 8 extending over their peripheries. The spring arm has its laterally bent end journaled in the standards 2 and it is pressed by the spring 5 to force the pressure device against the paper. As a sheet is pulled from the pack the rollers 9 turn, and after the end of the sheet leaves the upper roller this roller will still be turned because of the action of the sheet upon the lower roller and this action will be communicated to the upper roller so that the next sheet of the pack will be forced downwardly beyond the other sheet of the pack so that it may be grasped by the hand to be pulled downwardly.
I claim as my invention 1. A suspension wire for packs of paper sheets having a horizontal portion, a ver tical portion, a hook extending laterally at an inclination to the vertical portion, substantially as described 2. A suspension wire with a portion to extend through a paper pack from back to front, and turned up at its front end, said wire extending upwardly at right angles to the first portion and having a laterally exto receive said hook arranged at an inclina tending inclined hook to lie in a plane tion, substantially as described. 10 parallel with the plane of the back face of a In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature paper pack, substantially as described in presence of two Witnesses.

It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent N 0. 1,065,910, granted June 24, 1913, upon the application of Edgar Jerome, of Norwalk, Connecticut, for an improvement in Toilet-Paper Holders, an error appears in the printed specification requiring correction as follows: Page 1, line 13, for the patent number 1,046,510 read 1,046,070; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Ofiice.
Signed and sealed this 22nd day of July, A. D., 1913.
