WILLIAM F. CLAYTON, OF ARDEN, NORTH CAROLINA.
BOTTLE-STOPPER BEMOVER.
Application filed February 1, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM F. CLAYTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arden, in the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Stopper Removers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for removing bottle stoppers and comprises a simple and eflicient device of this nature having a pivotal lever which is adapted to force the crown of the bottle over a ridge and plate upon which the lever is mounted and thus forming a means for easily and quickly removing the stopper.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view showing my device as applied to a ledge or table, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view longitudinally through the handle and through the plate.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a plate which is adapted to be securely fastened to a table, ledge or other fixed object and is provided with lugs 13 projecting from the upper face thereof and which are spaced apart and apertured. C designates a pin mounted in said apertures and a lever E is pivotally mounted upon said pin and has an angled end F which is widened as shown and preferably semi-circular in outline. Said plate has a groove H formed in one end thereof and about the marginal edge of said groove is a semi-circular tapering flange l adapted to fit underneath the marginal edge of the crown to be removed from the bottle.
In operation, the neck of the bottle adja- Specification of Letters Patent.

cent to its end is positioned within said recess with the flange of the crown extending over the flange N, after which the lever is swung so that the widened angled end thereof bears against the top of the crown and, by further pressure upon the crown, the crimped flange will be forced down over the inclined edge N, spreading the flange of the stopper and readily and quickly removing the same.
That I claim to be new is 1. A device for removing stoppers from bottles comprising a plate having a recess in one end with a tapering flange about the marginal edge thereof and adapted to fit underneath the flan e of a crown to be removed from a bottle, and means for pressing the crown so that said inclined flange will spread the flange of the stopper, as set forth.
2. A device for removing stoppers from bottles comprising a plate adapted to be fastened to a fixed object and provided with a semi-circular groove formed in one end, said groove having an inclined flange about the marginal edge thereof, a lever pivoted to the plate and aoapted to bear against said crown to spread the flange thereof and loosening the same from the neck of a bottle, as setforth.
8. A device for removing stoppers from bottles comprising a plate adapted to be fastened to a fixed object and provided with a semi-circular groove formed in one end, said groove having an inclined flange about the marginal edge thereof, a lever pivotally mounted upon said plate and having an angled end which is semi-circular in outline and adapted to be forced against the top of a crown, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
