N0. 798,518. PATENTED AUG. 29, 1905. F. R. KENT.
DEVICE FOR. REMOVING BOTTLE GAPS.
APPLICIATION FILED MAY 18.1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT UFFIGE.
DEVICE FOR REMOVING BOTTLE-CAPS.
A Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 29, 1905.
Application filed May 18, 1905. Serial No. 260,926.
To all 2.0700171. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK R. KENT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Removing Bottle-Gaps,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for removing bottle-caps.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple lever with means for pivotally securing it to the neck of a bottle, so that when its free end is swung up away from the cap a prying projection at its inner end will engage the lower edge of the cap and pry it ofi of the bottle. This object I accomplish by the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a capped bottle having my improved cap-remover applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the cap-remover detached. Fig. 3 is a plan of a ring-shaped lever having a star within the ring.
A designates a bottle having two annular ribs (0 (4 around its neck just below the crimped cap B.
C designates a fulcrum-piece shaped to fit the ribs (0 a and the side of the bottle-neck by means of its flat inner face having two grooves c c therein. The fulcrum-piece C is provided with means forv securing it to the bottle-neck, such as a wire D, which is passed through an aperture in the piece C, then around the bottle-neck, and tied together at its ends. The upper end of the piece C is forked, as at c, to receive one end of a prying-lever E, which is pivoted in said fork. The lower side of this end of said lever is provided with a toe or projection e, which underlies the lower edge of the cap B, while the main portion of the lever lies across the upper side of the cap out of the way.
To remove the cap, it is simply necessary to raise the free end of lever E, when its toe a will force the cap from the bottle.
The lever E may be variously shaped to contain advertising matter, &c., orbe configurated to display a trade-mark-such as a star, for instance, as in Fig. 3.
A great advantage of my improvement is that the purchaser of a bottle provided therewith always has means for dccapping the bottle, as a decapper accompanies every bottle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
' 1. A device for removing bottle-caps, comprising a decapper adapted to engage the lower edge of a bottle-cap and force it off, and means for attaching the decapper in operative position on a bottle-neck.
2. A device for removing bottle-caps, comprising a fulcrum-piece having means for at taching it to a bottle-neck, and a lever pivoted to said piece and having a toe or projection at its pivot end, to underlie the lower edge of a cap.
3. A device for removing bottle-caps, comprising a fulcrum-piece having a wire for securing it to a bottleneck and provided with recessed inner face to fit the bottle-neck, and a horizontal lever pivoted to said piece and having at that end a toe or projection to extend under the edge of a bottle-cap.
4. The combination with a bottle, of a capremoving lever pivoted to the bottle-neck and having a projection or toe at its hinged end extending toward the neck to engage the lower edge of acap when the lever is swung up.
5. The combination witha capped bottle of a decapper secured to the exterior of the bottle-neck in operative relation to the lower edge of its cap.
6. A bottle-cap remover comprising a fulcrum-piece having means for attaching it to a bottle-neck, and a horizontal lever to cross the cap and provided at its pivoted end, below its pivot with a prying projection to engage the lower edge of the cap.
In testimony whereo'fI aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK R. KENT.
