PLOW-POINT.
Application filed. Gctober 30, 1911.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17, 1913.
Serial No. 657,697.
1 b all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD V. Poser, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clarkston, in the county of Asotin and State of ashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Points; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
One object of the invention is to provide a plow point adapted to be quickly and easily applied or attached to the mold board and share of a plow and which when so ongaged will protect the points of these parts from wear, thus greatly prolonging'the life or usefulness of the plow.
Another object is to provide a plow point of this character which may be cast in one piece and which is simple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction and when worn out or broken may be replaced at a small cost by a new point.
Another and important object of the invention is in the provision of a plow point of the character described the width of the landside of the point corresponding to the width of the connecting edge of the landsideof the plow and tapering therefrom, whereby a uniform and flat surface is formed on the landside of the plow. 4
A further object is to provide a plow point which is particularly adapted for use in connection with the plow shown and described in United States Patent No. 870,127 granted to me November 1907.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of a plow showing my improved point applied thereto; F 2 is a bottom plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a side View of the land side of the plow and point; Fig. i is a detail side view of the point removed from the plow; Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view thereof on the line of Fig. 6; Fig. 6 is a vertical cross sectional view of the same on the line 66 of Fig. 5.
My improved plow point is in the form of a hollow body cast in a single piece and comprising a top plate 1 which is adapted to be engaged with the forward end of the mold board and share or lay of the plow. Said top plate tapers and is inclined from its rear end toward its forward end. Spaced a suitable distance below the top plate 1 and formed integral therewith on the mold board side or edge thereof and at its forward end is a bottom plate 2 of the point said bottom being flat or disposed in horizontal position with respect to the other parts of the point and plow. Formed integral with the land side edges of the top and bottom plates of the point is a land side bar or plate 3 said bar or plate being preferably of the same width as the land side ofthe plow and extending from the point to the rear end of the land side of the plow. The landside bar or plate 3 of the point is preferably formed in two pieces, as shown, so that the main portion of the point may be renewed at less expense, when worn out. In the landsi. le 3 of the point are formed bolt holes 4: through which and through similar holes in the landside of the plow are insert-ed bolts 5 whereby the landside of the point is securely fastened to the landside of the plow thus holding the point in operative engagement with the mold board and share of the plow as shown. As clearly shown the out wardly projecting top plate 1 extends beyond the inner end of the bottom plate 2 of the plow point, whereby the connected end of the land side of the plow and the end of the bottom plate of the detachable point are protected by the said top plate. By thus constructing and arranging my improved plow point it will be seen that the same may be readily applied to the point of the mold board of the plowshare and that when so applied will form an etiicient means for protecting these parts as well as the landside of the plow from wear, and when the point is worn out the same may be quickly removed and a new point applied to the plow at a comparatively small expense, thus indefinitely prolonging the usefulness of the plow.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is;
The combination with the mold board and share of a plow, of a protecting detachable point comprising a tapering top plate engaging the forward end of the mold board and share, and inclined from its rear end to the forward end thereof, a bottom plate forming an integral part of the point, and shorter than the top plate, a landside flat plate projecting beyond the rear ends of the top and bottom plates, terminating on a line with the upper and lower straight edges of the said plate, the width of the landside of the point corresponding in width to the width of the connecting edge of the landside of the plow and tapering therefrom, and bolts passing through the projecting landside plate and similar side of the plow,
whereby the point is detachably secured in 15 position to the share of the plow, with the lower projecting edge ofQthe landside plate on a line with the lower edge of the share.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- 20 WM. A. HALL.
