PATENT OFFICE.
HOMER H. TIBBS, 0F NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE.
BED-LOCK, 8w.
Specification-of Letters latent.
Application filed October 11, :1912. Serial No. 725,137.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, HOMER H. Tums, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashville, Davidson county, and State of Tennessee, have invented and discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Bed- Locks, &c., of which the following is'a specification.-
The object of my said invention is to provide an improved form of lock for securing the side rails and end posts of bedsteads, orv
other similar frames, together, whereby, a
.very rigid ,joint, or' corner, is secured, and
one which may .be readily separated, and be adjusted withoutparticular arrangement as to size or position of the parts, all as will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed.
" Referring to the accompanying drawings,
(I which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference letters indicate similar parts, Figure 1 is a view of a corner of a bedinside of one end of the rail and asectiomof the bed-post, the parts being secured together by the use of my locking. device, Fig.12a view ofthe reverse side of the plate carrying the locking mechanism, Fig. 3 a detail view of a portion of .said plate, Fig. 4 a detail'end elev'ation thereof, a detail view showing the notched edge of a holding flange on said plate.
In said drawings the portions marked A represent the plate carrying the locking mechanism, B a lever for operating the C a sliding plate on which the locking catches are formed, D said locking catches, E guides for said plate C, and F holding pins in the post for engaging with said catches. The plate A is of appropriate form and size and is secured to each of therail ends of the bedstead, or other parts, by screws S, or other appropriate securing devices. Lever on said plate A by means of a pivot K and is formed with a short arm on its end ex- 1 tending at a right angle to its handle. On the outer end of said arm is carried a pivot L extending through a curved slot T in plate A, and engaging at its other end with.
\ sliding plate C. Said plate G is mounted between guides E on plate A and the hookshaped catches D are formed on its outer end and adapted to engage with pins F in post P of the end of the bedstead, or other frame. Said pins F are secured to extend transversely of the slot I in post P in the usual manner. The edge of lever B. is formed with a flange or edge G, adapted to engage with the notched edge of flange H Patented June 1'7,19131;
on the end of plate A, thus providing means to secure said lever in any ment. p I
In operation, the parts of the lock are socured on the respective portions of the bedstead, or other frame work, as shown, lever B is raised to move the hook-shaped catches D forward, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. l. The hook-shaped parts are then in serted in the slot in post P above the respective pins F to position, as shown by dotted lines. Lever B is then into a positionas shown by whole lines, which "by reason of its connection with redesired adjust- 1 ciprocating plate C before described, operforced downward when the edge G- of said lev er will be engaged under the appropriate notch in the notched edge H of the flange and thus secure said parts firmly and rigidly together until said lever is released.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
' 1. A lock for bedsteads, comprising trans verse holding members on one part, a reciprocating plate carrying locking members on the other part, a lever pivoted adjacent to said reciprocating plate andconnected B is pivoted l thereto for reciprocating the same, an
means for securing said lever to hold said plate in adjusted position, substantially as set forth.
2. A lock for bedsteads, etc., comprising holding members on one part, a plate carrying locking members mounted on the other part, said locking members, a lever pivoted my hand and seal at Nashville, Tennessee on said plate for operating said locking this 8th day of October, A. nineteen hunmembers, and a notched flange on saidplafe died and twelve.
adapted to engage said lever for securing it HOMER H. TIBBS. [L. s.] in adjusted position, s ibstantially as set- \Vitnesses: forth. C. R. COCKLE,
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set M. S. Ross.
