Description

S. P. BRONSON.
SANITARY 00MB. AlfrmoA 1111111111111111111 2.
UNITED SAMUEL P. BRONSON,
OF COREGIDOR, PHILIPPINE ISLANDS.
SANITARY COMB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Julie 10, 1913.
'v Application filed April 25, 1912, Serial No. 693,165.
To all zij/0m 1'?? muy concern Bc it known that I, Santini, I). BuoNsoN,
a citizen ot' the lUnited States, residing at Coiegidoi', via Manila, in the lPhilippine Islands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanita-rv Combs; and I do'hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact dcsciiptioii of the invent-ion, sneh as will enable others skilled iii the art to which it appertains to make anduse the saine.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in combs and more especially to cleaners for combs and the object of'my invention is to improve the construction and increase the etiiciency of devices ot the above described character.
'A further object of my invention is to provide a comb with a slotted cleaner bar which is slidably mounted over the teeth of the eomb and which iii raised position in no Way interferes .with the ordinary employinent of the comb. And a still further ob- ]ect of .my invention is to provide means for locking the cleaner bar in raised position.
lVith these and other objects in view, my invention will be more fully described, illusstrated in the accompanying drawings which show a preferred embodiment of my device and then specifically pointed out in the claim-which is attached to and forms a part ot this application.
In the drawings, Figure '1 is a side elevation of a comb with my cleaning device applied tliereto,'tlie cleaner bar being shown Fig. 2 is a like view in raised position.
bar in lowered position.
showing the cleaner Fig. 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal section A showing the locking means employed in securing the cleaner bar in raised position. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the comb.
Referring more specifically toi thev draw-V ings, in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding designates the body portion or back of fthe comb having relatively heavy end teeth 11 provided with lateral enlargements 12 formed on their outer faces ,adjacent their-- lower ends, and a plurality of spaced intermediate teeth 13. The ends of the back of the comb are each provided with an in- ,wardly directed socket 14 tei'minatingat its inner end in adowiiwardly inclined extenparts throughout,
sion 15, the purpose of which will hereiIr-:f' i 55 the enlargements 12 ot the end teeth 11, .t slots formed for the reception of said teeth being' so proportioned that when the end teeth are sprung inwardly toward the intermediate. teeth theywill pass readily through the slotsV thus permitting the positioning the cleaner bar upon the comb. Eac end: of the cleaner bar is provided with a sl ket 18similar to the sockets 14 with the exeption that the inner ends of the sockets `18 are inclined upwardy as shown at 19.
In ,order to maintain the cleaner bar in raised position I have provided a pair of U- shaped catches 2O the sides of which are adapted to'pas's within the sockets 14 and 18, these catches being formed of resilient material, preferably metal,` and having their free ends bent slightly toward each other in such a manner that when the catches are in place these ends will engage in the inclined terminals of the sockets and so prevent casual disengagement of the catches.
In operation, when the combis to be cleaned, these catches are removed and the cleaner barl is moved downwardly over the teeth of the comb to clean the same. The cleaner bar is then raised and secured in place by the catches.
From the foregoing description it will 'be apparent thatI have provided a simple and etlicicnt form of self cleaning in which the cleaner bar is when inv raised position.
held against disengagei'nent therefrom\ 1gg It will of course be understood that min-ori .is U
combandime A securely locked degree departing from the spirit,I of my invention as defined by. the appendedi claim.
What I claim is The combination with a comb -liaving a I ioo beveled socket formed in each end' of the head, shoulders formed'at the jiinctlires of the end teeth and the head and rojections formed on the outer surface 'of the end teeth, of a cleaner bar sli'dable over the teeth Of the comb adaptedio engage'said shoulders In testimony Whereo axmy signa- `and saiderojctons, sald cleaner bar havture, in presence of two witnesses.
