Toall whom it may concern? Be it known that I, FLoYD B. Sronnn, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at B ers, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvetneiits in Twine- Cutters, of which thefo'llowing is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a device for cutting twine.
The invention embodies, among other features, a device preferably mounted on .the fingers of` the hand and arranged to lie within the palm of the hand so that an end of the twine which has been previously passed around a package to secure the wrapper thereof, when engaged with the device, will be severed thereby, the device being so arranged that the.same will not interfere with the manipulation of the lingers of the hand in tying and securing the package.
The invention further embodies a device that can be cheaply and ctliciently constructed and in which the various parts thereof are preferably struck from .single sheets of matcrial, thus 'lnesentinga device made almost entirely from stamped metal.
In the further disclosure of thel invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawints. constituting a part of this specilication, 1n which similar characters of refer ence denote corresponding' parts `in all the views, and in which:

Referring to the views and more particularly to Fig. 4, use is made of a holder body 10, preferably formed of a blank 11, provided With extensions 1Q which, when bent, will form finger grips 13 as shown in Fig. 1, thefree ends of the extensions being adapted to engage the under side of the holder body and pp eferably made of a bendable material so thatlthe linger grips can be enlarged or restricted to conveniently fit the lingers of the operator. y I
The main portion of the blank 11 is bent upon itself to form a casing lil, an extension 15 of the blank. v1being provided to torm an edge 16 ofthe casing and an extension 1T o'f the blank being adapted, when bent, to forni a securing member 18 for a flat spring 19, mounted within the casing 14, for a purpose that will be hereinafter more fully disclosed. The inner ends of the linger grips 13 are preferably enlarged to form guard plates 20, the said guard plates being slightly curved in order that the finger' grips 13 can be conveniently adjusted to the fingersof the hand, the mentioned guard plates being clearly shown in Fig. 1 and in the blank in Fig. 4.
A blade holder 21 is preferably made of a blank 22, shown in Fig. 5, the mentioned blank being bent upon itself so that ears Q3 of the blank will'vform a head 24 for arranging a blade in the blade holder 21, the blank 22 being provided with extensions QG, which, when the. blank is bent upon itself, will form securing members Q7 for securing an end of the blade to the blade holder. An end of the blank terminates in an enlarged portion 2S which, when the blank 22 `is bent to form the blade holder 2l, will be rounded on the under side and bent slightly upward to forni a guide plate 2). The blade 25 has a pluralityv of opposite cutting edges 30 and is provided at. each end thereof with a notch il Now when the blade. 25 is mounted in the blade holder 21, a pin 32 is arranged to extend transversely through the head 24: of the blade holder and through one of the' notches 31,. thusrigidly securing one end of thc blade 25 within the blade holder, while at the same time, in view of the particular ma nner iu which the pin 32 is mounted, the blade holder' will swing on the pin 32, the other end of the blade 25 being retained in engagement with the blade holder by the securing members 27 which have been bent to engage the under side of the blade and secure the same in the blade holder. The flat spring 19, mentioned heretofore, when mounted in the casing 1/1- as shown in Fig. Q, will have an end thereof secured to the casing by the member 18 and' the free end of the spring engages the head 24 of the blade holder 21 to normally exert a downward pressure on the blade holder and retain the to the package,

The pin 32,is provided with a laterally extending shank 33 terminating in a hook 34 adapted to be received in notches 35, preferably as shown' in the blank 11 in Fig. 4, the mentioned hook V34, when mounted in the notch, being adapted to secure the pin ting edge .will protrude and the 31 of the blade wil have the therethrough, thus positively blade within the blade holder.
In the use of the device, the cutter is placedA on the fingers by passing the lingers through the grips 13, the grips being adjustable relatively to the lingers as Inenfvr tioned heretofore and, as shown in Fig. 1, when the device is mounted on the/.hand in the manner mentioned, the same-'will lie in the palm o fthe hand and will'not interfere with the fingers of the hand so that the lingers can be employed to tie the packa,2;eI

Now when itis desired to sever that portion of the twine adjacent tlle usual knot that secures the twine the mentioned portion of the twine is passed beneath the' guide plate 29, thus exerting an upward pressure on the blade holder `21 and operating the same against the action of the spring 19 so that when the portion -of the twine passes over the guard plates 20, the twine will engage the cutting edge 'of the blade 25, which, exerting a downward pressure through the mediumof the spring 19, will sever the twine, and the action of the spring 19 willr then return the blade holder and blade vwithln the casing 14, it being readily seen 'blade holder 21` that the guide plate 29 aids in guiding the twine to cutting position, an edge of the adjacent the guide plate 29, being inclined downwardly towardthe blade to materially aid in moving the twine into cutting position.
