OIL-BURNER.
, To all whom'z'tinay concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD H. Eox- IIARDT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Yorktown, in the county of Dewitt and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Oil'Burner, of which the following is a full, clear, a'nd exact descrip tion.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved oil burner arranged to insure the. formation of a thorough mixture of oil, air and a fluid underpressure, such as steam or compressed air, and to prevent flooding of the burner with surplus oil For the purpose mentioned, use is made of a mixing chamber, a spraying device discharging into the said mixing chamber at the rear end thereof, an air inlet leading to the mixing chamber, and a suction device infront of the mixing chamber for drawing the mixture out of the mixing chamber and forcing it to the burner.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification in which the figure is a longitudinal section of the oil burner, parts being in. elevation.
A mixing chamber A, preferably in the form of a short tube, is connected at the rear end with a fresh air supply pipe B having an inlet C at the bottom which also serves as an outflow for surplus oil that may accumulate in the mixin chamber A and the pipe B. The rear en of the air supply pipe B is closed by a plug'D in which 15 screwed or otherwise secured a fluid pressure pipe E terminating at,v its forward end in a nozzle E extending into the rear end of the mixing chamber A. Within the nozzle E is arranged a nozzle F of an oil supply pipe F extending through the fluid pressurepipe E and connected with a suitable source of oil supply. A valve G is arranged in the oil supply pipe F to control the amount of oil passing through the same to be atomized by the fluid under pressure passing through the pipe E and its nozzle E, and which fluid under pressure may be steam, compressed air or the like. The fluid pressure pitpe E is provided with a valve H to permit 0 regul'ating the amount of steam or compressed air passing through the pipe E, and the valve H is connected by a branch ipe I with a fluid pressure supply pipe connected with a boiler or oompressedair reservoir or Specification of Letters Patent.

The forward end of the mixing chamber A is connected with a suction chamber K from which extends a burner tube L for conducting the mixture of oil, air, steam or compressed air to the burner to:be burned. Within the suction chamber K is arranged a suction nozzle N extending forwardly"and c terminating adjacent the beginning end of the burner tube L, and the nozzle: Se cured to a pipe N held in a cap' K attached to the bottom of the chamber "K. The outer end of the pipe Nis provided with a valve 0 connected by a'jbranch pipe I with the fluid'pressure supply pipe J so thatfluid under pressure can pass by way of the branch pipe I valve 0 and pipe N to the nozzle N an out of the same to produce a suction in the suction chamber K and consequently in the forward end of the mixing chamber A to draw the combustible mixture forward through the suction chamber J and force the same through the burner pipe L to'the burner to beburned thereon.
When the oil burner is in use and the valves G, H and O are open then free air is drawn through the inlet C and pipe 13 into the mixing chamber A, and at the same time the oil is sprayed by the action of the fluid under pressure passing through the pipe E and the nozzle E at the nozzle F of the oil pipe F. The sprayed oil mixes with the free air drawn in through the inlet G and the pipe B, and the mixture is drawn forward into the suction chamber K by the action of the fluid passin through the forwardly-extending nozzle so that a further intimate mixture of the oil, air, steam orcompressed air takes place to ro vide a highly combustible mixture, w iich when burnedinsures complete combustion..
The oil burner shown and described is very simple and durable in construction and is not liable to be flooded as any oil that is not sprayed and passes into the mixing chamber A can readily flow through the pipe B and inlet C out of the burner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. An oil burner comprising a mixing chamber, an air inlet connected with the rear end of the mixin chamber, a sprayin device connected wit an oil supply an with a source for supplying fluid under pressure and discharging into the rear end of the said mixing chamber, a suction chamber, a nozzle projecting into the suction chamber in front'of the said mixing chamber and connected with the said source of fluid under pressure, and a burner pipe extending from the said suction chamber.
2. An oil burner comprising amixing chamber, an air inlet connected with the rear end of the said mixing chamber, an oil supply pipe, a pipe for supplying fluid under pressure surrounding the said oil pipe and forming with the latter a spraying device discharging into the rear end oi the said mixing chamber, a suction chamber con nected with the front end of the said mixing chamber, a suction nozzle extending forwardly in the said suction chamber, a pipe for supplying fluid under pressure connected with the said nozzle, and a burner pipe extending forwardly from the said suction chamber.
3. An oil burner comprising a mixing chamber, an air inlet connected with the rear end of the said mixing chamber, an oil supply pipe, a pipe for supplying fluid under pressure surrounding the said oil pipe and forming with the latter a spraying device discharging into the rear end of the said mixing chamber, a suction chamber connected with the front end of the said mixing chamber, a suction nozzle extending forwardly in the said suction chamber, a pipe for supplying fluid under pressure connected with the said nozzle, a burner pipe extending forwardly from the said suction chamber, a pipe connected with a source of fluid under pressure and with the said fluid under pressure pipes, and valves in the said fluid under pressure pipes.
