My improvements relate lto the class of abrasive erasers in which rubber is usually t-he-main-base or vehicle of the composition used for cleaning surfaces, as in the. case of the so called rubber erasers furnished for the use of stenographers, typewriters and' draftsmen, and for clerical and analogous purposes.

In the modification shown in Fig.- 5, the holder H, is formed with an outer casing Il., fitting over the inner end of the attrition cap A. Either the attrition cap A, or the holder H, may be provided With an angular iiange f, to prevent the device rolling on a smooth surface.

The elasticity and resilience of the rubs bei' R, admits of its adjustment within the holder H, to'coiupensate for Wear, &c., and the adjustment of the attrition cap A, on the holder also ,contributes to the utilization ot practically the whole length ot the rubber R.

The use of the attrition cap A, is obvious. W'hen the rubber R, is not. desired for actual use it is protected by the cap A, against contact with extraneous objects. To remove any smudge or dirt from the end r, of the rubber'lt, the cap A, is pressed slightly against it, and turned in either direction, thereby abrading the end 7*, and cleaning it with a minimum of Waste, at the same time restoring and perfecting its shape so that it is in best condition for future use. may be conveniently accomplished by alternately reversing the motion after a par' tial turn et' the attrition cap A, or of the holder H, in either direction,` the complete l rotation of, either part not being necessary.
