Description

W. A. MURSE.
Lead-Pencils.
Patent ed Dec. 24, 1872 INVENT OR 7A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. MORSE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
iMPROVEMENT IN LEAD-PENCILS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,215, dated December 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. MORSE, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented .certain Improvements in Lead-Pencils, of which the following is a specification:
My improvement and invention consist in providing a common rubber head, now in general use on wood pencils, with a fibrous or suitable material for cleaning paper after erasing lead-marks.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved erasing and cleaning head attached to a pencil.
W is a rubber head, which may be of the form now common in use. A is the papercleaner, which I prefer to make of soft cloth or felt, but any material may be used that is best adapted to clean paper; nor do I wish to confine myself to any particular form or style of cleaner, as different-formed rubber heads may require differently constructed papercleaners to attach thereto.
I attach the cleaner to the rubber head by means of glue or strong gum.
I prefer to use a metallic spring tube to attach the above to a pencil, but paper-tubing, in connection with the cloth wiper or cleaner, may be used insteadof metal; or it may be attached without any connecting-tube.
The merit of my improvement and its advantage will be readily understood, as all have experienced the difficulty of cleaning paper of the dirt which always accumulates under a rubber eraser in erasing pencil-marks from WM. A. MORSE.
