SANITARY TOILET-SEAT covna.
Specieation of Letters Patent.
Patented June 3i, 19u13.
Application led December 11, 1912. Serial No. 736,149.
citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of 5 California, have invented certain new and useful improvements in 'Sanitary Toilet- Seat. Covers, of which the following 1s a specification. l
This invention relates to water closets and has for its object the production of a novel and efficient guard sheet which is adapted to be used in combination therewith.
Another object of this Iinvention is the production of a. retaining clamp which is adapted to fit over the outer periphery of the 4 seat for holding the guard sheet in position.
With. these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel combinations, constructions, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l.
is a top plan view of the guard sheet and clamp member as used in combination with the seat. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the vault showing the device attached thereto, a portion of the vault and guard sheet being shown in section and the/retaining clamp shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the guard sheet. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a portion of the seat showing a modification of the device in, section. Fig.`
5 is a sectional'view of theseat'showing a portion of the deviceI in section and a modified form of a stop.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals. it will be seen that the device is used in combination with the usual vault 1 to which the seat 2 is hingedly secured by means of the ears 3 and the bar 4. i
The guardsheet which is used in combination with the device is provided with the rectangular body 5 which is provided with the central opening 6. The edge portion adjacent this opening 6 is provided with a plurality of slits 7 forming a plurality of flaps 8. At one end of the opening 6 there is provided an enlarged finger 9 which is adapted to be bent downwardly when the device is placed-in position upon the seat. The flaps 8 are also bent downwardly 'so as to form a protector for the inner portion of the seat. There is, of course, provided a projection 10 which forms a means for lifting the guard when so desired9 resilient or gripping action.
Inorder to hold the guard sheet in positionupon the seat 2 there is provided an oval-shaped clamping member 11 which is provided near its inner end with thebowed portions 12 which are connected to the bar 6o A 4 as illustrated at 13. vllhe clamping inember is formed from a single strand of resilient wire or metal, and by means of the bowed portion 12 the body portion of the clamping member will be provided with a e5 In use the sheet is first placed upon the seat 2 at which time the clamping member 11 is closed down thereon. The oval-shaped clamping member 11 allows the same to conform in contour to 7o the outer periphery of the seat 2 whereby the clamping member may be forced down over the side portions of the seat- 2 and the guard sheet Vwill be held firmly in position and the clamping member 11 will be so positioned as 75 to be entirely out of the way. ln order to limit the downward movement of this clamping member 11 there is provided a stop which is carried by the seat 2 which comprises a member 14 which is held upon the lower por- 80 tion of' the seat by means of the screws 15. The stop may extend for a considerable distance up the side of the seat 2 as illustrated at 15. lWhen the clamping member is closed down upon the guard sheet it will slip down overthe outer edge of the seat and will rest uponl the upper nportion of the stop 14.
lin Fig. 5, it will be seen that there is provided a slightly modified form of a 4stop which is provided with the L-shaped body 14 which is held upon the Vseat 2 by means of the screws 15".. The upper portion of the stop 14 is provided with the U-shaped face 17 in which the clamping member 11 is adapted to rest when the same is in a closed position, whereby the paper will be engaged by the clamping member 11 by binding upon one-half of the circumference of the clamping member 11. It will be seen in the foregoing that an efhcient guard sheet has been produced which is held uponI the seat by means of the oval-shaped clamping member being placed down upon the outer periphery of the seat and the clamping member being prevented from slipping over the entire seat and thus disengage itself from the guard sheet by means of the L-shaped stop.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
1. In a device ot the class described, the'll@ 'of said seat for holding said sheet upon said seat, ofl an L-shaped stop positioned upon l said seat, the upper portion of said stop provided with a U-shaped pocket, s aid band adapted to rest within said pocket .for limiting the downward movement of said band and the engagement of the edges adjacent said pocket of said stop and said band constituting a binding engagement for holding said sheet in position. V
In testimony whereof I aIiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
