N. OAMELO. SANITARY COVER FOR CLOSET SEATS. APPLIUATION FILED HAR.7,|1913.
Patented Dec. 9, 1913.
UNITED STATES rngnnr onnron- NICHOLAS GAMELO, 0F UTICA, NEW YORK.
SANITARY COVER FOR CLOSET-SEATS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedDec. 9, 1913.
Application filed March 7, 1913. Serial No. 752,706.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS CAMELo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ut-ica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Covers for Closet- Seats, of which the following is a specification.
and more particularly to sanitary covers for the seats of closets, and has for an object to 7 provide a sanitary rim that can be cheaply manufactured and which can be readily placed upon the usual closet seat.
The invention embodies, more particularly, a rim which is preferably made of a means of attaching the rim to the seat and retaining the same in a proper position thereon.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views and in which: a
Figure 1 is a plan view of a closet-showing a cover applied to the seat, parts being broken away to disclose the underlying structure; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line Qr-2 in Fig. 1 Fig. 3 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken on the line 33 in Fig. 2, showing the manner of supporting the securing member in swinging position; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the cover.
Referring more particularly to the views, I disclose a closet 10 including a stationary plate 11 on which is mounted to swing the usual seat 12 and secured to the'plate 11 at the ends thereof is a socket 13 adapted to support a securingmember 14 in swlnging position with respect to the seat and the plate, the said securing member preferably consisting of two sections 15 and '16, with The invention relates to baths and closetsthe section 15 .bent to conform to the periphery of the seat 12 and constituting the main portion of the securing member and the section 16 adapted to more particularly constitute a supporting section and consisting of two similar parts, each having their inner ends bent to connect with the sockets 13 andswing thereon, with the outer ,or free ends of each part looped to receive therein the free ends of the section 15. Now it will be readily apparent that the section 15 of the securing member 14 can be swung relatively to the supporting section 16 or the entire securing member 14 can be swung relatively to the plate 11, it being further apparent that the section 15 is just a trifle larger in diameter than the diameter of the seat 12. T
A rim member 17 preferably formed of a single piece of material or paper having the configuration of the seat 12 is adapted to reposeupon the seat as shown. In order to secure the rim member 17 rigidly on the seat, the securing member 14 is swung from an inoperative position downwardly to engage the rim member after the same has been placed upon the seat, so that the section 15 of the securing member 14 will encircle a depending edge 18 of the rim member 17 and rigidly secure the rim member to the seat, as will be readily understood by referring to the views. Now when it is desired to remove the rim member it is simply necessary to swing the section 15 of the securing member upwardly and out of engagement with the rim member after which the rim member can be readily removed from the seat and discarded for a new rim member. a
In the use of the devices of the class described the closet will at all times be in a sanitary condition and the rim member 17, being made of paper, can be cheaply manufactured to provide a sanitary and efficient article. It will be understood'that the securing member 14 can be easily applied to all forms of seats 12 and that by making the securing member 14 of a spring-like wire and providing a plurality of hinge points,
the section 15 of the securing member 14 when swung downwardly into position to engage the rim member 17, will bind with respect-to the rim member and rigidly se- 7 cure the same upon the seat.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a closet seat having a cover reposing' thereon, a securing member consisting of a plurality of hingedly connected sections, one
of said sections having connection with the closet and the other said section being arranged to swing on the first mentioned section and adapted to engage the cover and encircle the same to secure the cover on the seat. a
2. In a closet seat having a cover reposing thereon, a plurality ofsockets carried by the closet and a se'curingmember consisting of a plurality of hingedly connected sections,
one of said sections having swinging connection with the said socket and consisting of two similar parts, one for each socket, 15 and the other said section being mounted to swing on the first mentioned section and adapted to engage the cover to secure the same on the said closet seat.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 2:? in presence of two witnesses.
NICHOLAS CAMELO.
