To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL BARTELS, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, Butler county, Ohio, have invented cer-' tain new and useful Improvements .m Safe or Vault Walls,0f which the following is.

The plates 1 and Zand the bars having been properly formed, andthe bars having been properly secured to the plates-in the manner ex lained, and the two plates with their bars having been properly associated, one of the clamp-blocks is slipped over the end of the bars and passed down to desired position upon the bars, say at the lower ends of. the bars, and a driven tight, this clamps the two plates solidly endwise together at the point of location of that particular clamp-block. A second clamp-block is then similarly applied and driven, and so on. for a series of clamp-blocks whereby the joint between the plates becomes firmly made throughout its number of the clamp-blocksyand the distance between the clamp-blocks of the series will depend upon the length of the joint between the plates and also upon the desire as to how close be in the completed structure. It is to be understood that as the exterior edges of the bars are tapering the width of the dovetailed grooves in the clamp-blocks will need to vary accordingly in order that they may narrow portions of the bars.
It has thus far been assumed that the bars are continuous bars receiving a-series of obvious that the bars may be discontinuous, the only necessity in this respect being that they shall furnish a proper seating for each of the clampblocks. But this cannot always be the case, for in vault construction the bars might extend from ceiling to floor, and in such case provision must be made for applying the clamp-blocks to the bars without the necessity for endwise application. I claim 1. A safe or vault Wall comprising, Wall plates having their edges in contact, bars secured to the inner surface of said plates at the sides of the'joint and having dovetailed tapering edges, and a series of clampblocks disposed against the inner faces of said ,bars and engaging their outer edges, combined substantially as set forth.
2. A safe or vault Wall comprising, wall plates having their edges in contact, bars secured to the inner surface of said plates at abutting contact and having their inner surfaces provided with integrally formed studs near the joint between the edges of the plates, a bar of metal disposed at the inner surface at the edge of each plate and having their outer edges dovetailed and tapered and the bars being secured to the plates by means of said studs being riveted in holes in the bars, and clamp-blocks disposed across the inner face of said bars and'engaging the dovetailed tapering edges of the bars, combined substantially as set forth. A safe or vault wall comprising, plates of unmachinable metal having their edges in surface at the edge of each plate and having their outer edges dovetailed and tapered and the bars being secured to the plates by means of said studs being riveted in holes in the bars, and clamp-blocks disposed across the inner face of said bars and engaging the dovetail tapering edges of the bars the outer edges of the bars and the engaging surfaces of the clamp-blocks being notched to permit of the clamp-blocks being applied facewise to the bars, combined substantially'as set forth.
