WILLIAM P. LEWIS AND SILAS L. VERA, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 106,269, dated August 9, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT "IN STOVE-PIPE S.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent: and making part of the same To all whom it may corwern Be it known that we, WILLIAM I. Laws and SILAS L. VERA, of the city of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stove-Pipes; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I
The nature of our invention consists in an improved method of constructing stove-pipes, whereby additional room is obtained for kettles, pots, or other utensils to heat or cook food or other articles. 7
The first part of our invention consists in providing the main pipe with a lip or flange at the lower end to fit onto the smoke-outlet of the stove, the upper end of said main pipe also havirig a-lip, flange, or groove to support a lid, kettle, pot, or other utensil, as the case may be, this upper-flange being provided witha notch or recess, for the purpose hereinafter described. Au elbow is formed to the main pipe, to fit ipto the chimney or escape-pipe, and may be made of any desired length.
Thesccond partof our invention consists of an .adjustablc bracket or elicit-supporter, to be adjusted on the upper end of the main pipe, uponv the flange or tip before mentioned, and to be held in position by the projections on the said bracket or slielflsupporter, as more fully shown in the drawing. This bracket is provided with lugs or cars, to support the shelf, said shelf being provided with holes to support the dishes, kettles, pots, or-other utensils, and can be removed at pleasure.
By this invention we secure an economical and cheap heating apparatus, that can beattached to any stove, and, at the same time, we obtain auniforrn heat to the entire surface of the utensil used, thereby preventing the damage to dishes, by heat being applied to only one part of a dish or plate, when made of chinaware or like material.
f Figure 1 is a top view of my invention, when ready or use.
Figure 2 is a view of the shelf.
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the pipe through line Figure 4 is a top view of the bracket or shelfholder.
A is the main pipe, with the elbow E. p
O is. the lid, fitted in the top of said main pipe.
D is the bracket, adjusted on the rim. or flange G by means of projections h I1, sbownin'dotted lines.
B is the shelf, placed upon the bracket, and held in position by the lugs c e,-on the bracket, and the lugs f f, on the shelf.
It can be plainly seenthat all of these parts can be removed at pleasure tor packing or storing away.
Having described our invention,
\Vbat we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is--- 1. The pipe A, constructed with'flanges or grooves at top and lower ends, in combination with the lid 0 and elbow E, substantially in the manner and for the purposes specified,
2. The bracket D, in combination with the pipe A and flange G, in the manner and for the purposes specified.
3. The shelf B, in combination with the bracket D and pipe A, the whole constructed and operated in the manner and for the purposes specified.
4. The combination and arrangement of the pipe A, elbow E, lid 0, bracket D, shelf B, the whole constructed and operated substantially in the manner and for the purposes as shown and described.
