UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. H. GLUOK, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
STEAM-COOKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 507,359, dated October 24, 1893.
Application filed January 26, 1893- Serial No. 459,640. (No model.)
ToaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. H. GLUoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Cookers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in steam cookers and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which Figure 1 shows a vertical crpss-section of the complete apparatus. Fig. 2 shows a side elevation of one of the removable sections and showing the tube section broken away. Fig. 3, is a top plan view of the boiler.
The letter, A, designates a circular boiler having a gage-lip, (1, attached to one side and communicating with the boiler through an opening, 12, near the bottom. A number of vessels, B, rest one upon the other above the boiler, A, each vessel having a lower part, c, which fits in the top of the next vessel below, and a flange or shoulder, cl, resting on such lower vessel. The bottom one of the vessels has its lower part, c, fitting in the boiler. The boiler and each of the vessels has a semi-cylindrical tube-section, O, attached to its outer side and each tube-section except the one on the boiler, has a downward-extending lip, d, to take over the tubesection on the next vessel below,-the lip of the tube section on the bottom vessel taking over the tube-section on the boiler and said latter tube-section having its lower end closed. The tube-section on the top-vessel has its upper end closed, and all these tube-sections fitting together as described form a continuous tube extending from the boiler to the topmost Vessel. The tube-section on the boiler communicates with the boiler through an opening, e, therein and each of the tube-sections on the several vessels communicates with the vessel to which it is attached through an opening, therein. Each of such openings,
f, is closed by a pivoted valve which consists of an arc-shaped plate, g, fitting closely against the exterior of the vessel and entering the tube-section through an opening, h, in the side of the same. The said plate has an ear, 9, by which it is pivoted to the vesels, and an outward-turned lip, 9 by which it may be moved on its pivot. The steam from the boiler will rise through the tube and having bearings in the sides of the tubesection. One end of the rod forms a handle, 1' by which to work the damper. The object of these dampers is to cut ofi the steam from the tube-sections where it is not desired. For instance it steam is desired only in the bottom vessel, then the damper in the tube-section attached to said vessel is closed and the steam is thus cut off from the tube section above. The damper is above the inlet opening in the vessel, so that it does not interfere with the entrance of the steam into the vessel. The boiler may be kept supplied with water through the lip, a, and the height of the Water also gaged thereby.
This cooking apparatus may be very easily managed and will be found very convenient and efficient. The pivoted cut-ofi valves are easily operated and the steam from the boiler may be utilized in whatever part of the cooker desired. The topmost vessel will have a cover, E.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a steam cooker, the combination of a boiler having a tube-section attached to its exterior; a number of vessels resting one upon the other above the boiler and each having a tube-section attached to the exterior,-all the tube-sections fitting together to
