Description

l. KINNEY.
Culinary-Boilers. No. 130,921. Patented Aug27,1872- UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
ISRAEL KINNEY, OF LONDON, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT m CULINARY BouERs;
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,921, dated August 27, 1872.
To whom it may concern Be it known that I, ISRAEL KINNEY, of London, in the county of Middlesex, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and useful Improvement in CulinaryVessels; and I do declare that the following is a true I, and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing my improvement as applied to a pot. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the plane 00 00 in Fig. 3, which is a vertical section on the line y y in Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in the several figures.
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in the construction of the hollowware and culinary vessels of cook stoves, whereby odors and vapors arising from them in use will be carried up the chimney instead of being discharged into the kitchen. The invention consists in forming a flue orpassage at the side of such a vessel, whereby, in conjunction witha draft-opening in the lid or cover'thereof, such vapors will be drawn into the stove and thence up the chimney by the draft of the stove, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents the body of an ordinary cooking-pot, and B its cover, in which there is an aperture, a. The side wall of the A pot is cast with a vertical recess, A extending down from the top to the bottom, following the offset made by the pit. The outer edges of the recess, down to the plane of the ofl'set for the pit, are formed with flanges ato receive a sheet metal slide, A which closes the recess and preserves the circular contour of the vessel, while, at the same time, it forms a flue, connecting the interior of the pot with the interior of a stove, on which it is placed, whereby the draft of the latter will draw the vapors and odors generated in cooking down through said flue and into the stove, as shown in Fig. 2,the air to support the draft entering through the aperture to in the lid.
I am well aware that such a flue may be cast within the pot by coring it in molding, but that would materially increase the cost of the vessel, and therefore I prefer the method described and shown on the score of cheapness, while it is equally as effective.
This improvement is applicable to all the vessels used in cooking-such as kettles, boilers, steamers, spiders, and sauce-pans.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the vessel A with the plate A ,'the plate being secured to the yessel by means of flanges, as described.
' ISRAEL KINNEY.
