At the other end ofthe piston the ports O are closed, and water is rushing through the oriiices J, which water will be forced into the piston and'up into the 'discharge-pipe when the motion of the'piston is reversed. y
There is, consequently, all alternate opening and closing of the orifices and ports as the pump is worked .It 4will be seen that this pump (as shown in the drawing) is a double-'acting force-pn|np, but the arrangement is readily modified so as to make it a single acting pump'. y
This is a simple and durable pump,l entirely free from i-ost in winter, and dependent upon noair-tight valves for its perfect action. Its advantagesover the ordinary pumps in use are many, and must be obvious 'to all.
` Having thus described our invention,
We claim` as new and desire to secure -by Lett-ers 1. In combination with the cylinder B, the piston G, the pistou-plates H H',tl1e head J J', the dischargepipe D, and the partition G, (through which the piston works,) arranged andoperating substantiallyas and for the purposes herein shown and described.
2. The hollow piston C, providedl with the ports I, and formed on orattached to thelower end of the discharge-pipe D, as shown and described.
