' RULE-POCKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 13, 1913.
Application filed January 23, 1912. Serial No. 672,843.
Be it known that I, Pnaor W. Toorri a subject of the King of Great Britain, l'BSl d'" ing-at Leastalk, in the county of San Bernardinojand State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rule-Pockets, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates .to rule pockets and the objectof the-inventionis to provide a simple and efficient device of this character wherein the rule may beconveniently held against accidental displacement and wherein the device may be readil attached to the ordinary rule pocket prov ded in overalls or the like.
' Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, whichfforms a part of this application, and in which Figure'l is a perspective view showing the device applied. Fig. 2 is a transverse sec- I tion through the device.
Fig. 3' is a longitudinal section taken therethrough. Fig. t is a similar section taken at right angles to Fig. 3. I
Referring more particularly to the drawing,1 represents a pocket of metal orother suitable material which is preferably oblong in shape and is adapted to fit within the rule pocket 2 of the overalls 3. The upper edge of the pocket is slightly rolled so as to rein- "force the same and provide a smooth entrance for the rule which is not shown. The device is'secured in the. rule pocket 2 by, means of a clamping plate 4 having a plutality of inwardly and upwardly projecting prongs 5 adapted to engage the material of which the'pocket'is formed and to be held in engagement therewith by a. leaf spring 6 which bears against the upper edge of the plate above the pivotal point thereof. The plate is provided with a pair of laterally extending ears 7 which are pivoted to the pocket by rivets or bolts 8.
Secured Within the, pocket to one of the narrow sides by means of a belt or rivet 9 is a leaf spring 10 which is adapted to bear against the edge of the rule so as to hold the same in the pocket against accidental dis placement.
What I claim as new is In a device of the class described, the combination of a substantially flat rectangular receptacle, a clamp comprising a plate formed at its upper edge to provide forwardly extending arms embracing said re,- ceptacle adjacent the upper end and pivot ally recured to the opposite sides thereof, inw..-dly' and upwardl disposed prongs punched in said plate ad acent the lower end thereof, and a leaf spring of a length equal to that of said plate and having its lower end secured to the rear wall of said receptacle and having its free end spaced therefrom and bearing against the upper edgeof said plate to force'the said prongs, thereof into. engagement with the garment pocket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PERCY W. TOOTH.
