Description

w. E. CRANDALL.
Handle for Childs Carriage.
No. 106,033. Patented Aug. 2. I870.
applied to the arms 13 B, and to prevent any wearing or injury to the surface of the bar or handle A the same may be covered with raw-hide, or othersuitable material, at the point where the ring H is placed, or the ring may itself be lined upon the inside with like material.
These handles, with their ferrules or rings, may be plated or not, as desired, but it is preferred to cover or coat the same with some suitable white metal.
The ordinary bar or handle A may be formed with either of the handles, in one piece, from any suitable metal, in which case the said bar is provided with sockets, by which means it can readily be attached to the arms B B.
Various designs or configurations of any desired form may also he placed upon or formed with. the handles, ferrules, or rings, and to such features the invention is not limited.
Neither is the invention limited to any particular form, construction, or mere transposition of the handles upon the ring or ferrules. I
It will also be readily understood that either of the metallic handles may be formed with or arranged in an oblique, vertical, longitudinal, or any other suitable manuer, in reference to the ferrules or rings, as may be desired.
Thus it will be seen that I have produced a secondary handle, which is readily applied to the ordinary bar or'handle of old or new carriages or perambulators, which, when either plated or ornamented, adds greatly to the beauty of such carriages, atthe same time afford a firm support for the hand or hands of those pushing or pulling the carriage.
Having described my invention, Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- .l. The combination, with the ordinary bar or han- 'dle of a childs carriage or perambulator, of one or more secondary handles, substantially as described.
2. The secondary handles D, provided with the ferrules D, in combination with the ordinary bar or handle of a childs carriage or perambulator, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
3. The secondary adjustable handles E, in combination with the metallic ferrules D", and the ordinary handle of a childs carriage, substantially as described.
4. The slots to a, formed in the ring portion of the secondary handles with the slotted ferrules D", in combination with a catch-pawl and a spring, or their equivalents, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth;
5. The single secondary handle, so constructed as to be placed at or near the center of the ordinary bar or handle of a childs carriage or perambnlator, substantially as described, forthe purpose set forth.
6. The single secondary handle H, formed or provided with a slottedring, H, in combination with a set-screw, or its equivalent, and the ordinarybar or handle of a childs carriage or perambulator.
To the above I have signed my name th s 14th day of July, 1870.
